I understand that typically each term is 10 weeks and 3 classes are taken per term. How often per week does each class meet, and how long does each class usually last daily? I would assume that in the compressed 10 week terms that classes might meet more than 3 times/week and might last longer each day also. Any help will be appreciated.

The frequency and length of classes vary. However, most fall into two categories: they'll meet three times a week (Monday-Wednesday-Friday) for 65 minutes or two times a week (usually Tuesday-Thursday) for 110 minutes. Further, each class has a 50-minute 'X hour' each week that professors may use at their discretion. Some profs will use one or two while others will use all of them.

To add on to what WG (hi) said that if you take a foreign language at level 1 or 2 those courses have drills that meet for 45 minutes I think 4 times a week in addition to classroom time.

If you are taking a science course with labs, the lab meets for 3 hours not counting the amount of time needed for pre-labs and post lab write-ups.

Hi Sybbie--hope everything is going well.

Labs can meet for anywhere from 3-6 hours depending on the class. Intro physics labs are three hours, most biology and general chem labs are 4, and organic chemistry labs are 6.

the typical workload in terms of hour, will be similar overall to that of a school where you take 4 courses in a semester. it is just that you are spending a little more time in class for each of your 3 classes and doing a little more work outside of class for each of your 3 classes. The benefit is that you only have 3 classes you are concerned with (worrying about???) at a given time, and 3 sets of exams/papers rather than 4 or even 5. Even though you are in class for a similar number of hours per week, when it is divided between only 3 classes it seems that you have more free time.

Thanks. That's very helpful!!
