I have one typo I didn't notice when I submitted the application. In one sentence, I intended to write "I first participated in," but in the submitted version, it appears to come out as "I first participates in." This is an obvious typo, and I've heard typos like these makea huge impact on the application. Is this true? Should I email the three colleges I applied to? Help!! Please!!!

yes it does show you did not spend time to check your essay
the admission officer will see you didn’t really spend much effort
to get lots of people to check
will affect your chances

it might seem too obsessive if you call everyone up. ask your guidance counselor

If it’s not in an obvious spot (i.e. your essays) then it would be riding the line but no big deal. I agree with nyc, ask your counselor for advice and/or call the admissions offices.
