okay, so i asked a history teacher for a teacher recommendation for this selective program i am applying for. when i received the finished letter, there were several grammatical errors, missing words, and sentences that didn't really make sense/weren't completed. I even saw that he called me a "her" at one point. Hahah. Is this going to affect the admission committees decision to accept me into the program? and how much? It's just like annoying...

well it definitely doesnt help you, and has a great chance of hindering your application.
it seems like your teacher doesnt even know who you are!
take the safe route and ask for another rec...dont risk it because your teacher's stupid.
good luck

but it was an amazing rec.. and its my best class. so idk what to do.. you really think it will have an affect?????

My teacher misspelled my last name in her rec :/ And it clearly wasn't a typo, she didn't once get it right. I know I have a difficult foreign last name but this destroys the rec's credibility... Sigh.

^ Edit it out

do some forgery if u must!

lol

jk, maybe just go up to her and tell him/her to fix it?

A recommendation letter writer's credibility or lack thereof necessarily reflects upon the recommended. Serious grammatical and spelling errors in a recommendation letter detract from the substance of the recommendation, however gracious it might be.

The gutsy thing to do is to ask the teacher for a do-over. Re-type the letter, correct the grammatical errors, and ask the teacher to sign the revised letter.

The worst thing that can happen is that you so offend the teacher that you cannot go back for another recommendation. The way it stands now is you cannot trust him to do another recommendation anyway because you cannot trust him not to make the same mistakes in future recommendations.

You may be surprised that your teacher is grateful for your catching his errors and actually be thankful to you. You might not. But it speaks more to your teacher's maturity than your own if he is resentful.

Nah, it's too late, I found out 3 months after the rec was submitted... But FORTUNATELY I don't think it has hurt me so far as I've been accepted to a couple of good schools already. Even got a Presidential Scholarship at one of them ^_^ But man was I mad when I read that recommendation letter...

I had a bunch of typos in mine and I gave it back to him to fix hahaha.

too late, I sent them in with errors.. meh.. i didn't have time to have him do it over/correct mistakes..
