Are typos really that bad? I'm worried because I found a couple in my Berkeley application, but I am otherwise a great applicant. I really hope it doesn't hurt my chances..............Thoughts?

I doubt it would be too significant, but it would seem to indicate to an admissions officer that you didn't bother taking the time to proofread, and thus don't care a great deal about your application to the school.

holds back sarcastic comments

Well, if the typo turns your name into Erghtsgf Bwa, than yeah, I'd say it's a problem. But the occasional wsa instead of was, or something along those lines shouldn't hurt.

Typos are not very important in informal communications that are dashed off (like this one). For something important, like a resume or application, typos can be a sign of carelessness.

It may or may not have an impact on the decision but, next time, proof carefully.
