Is it me, or does the surrounding neighborhood seem like one of the scariest places in the US...? I'm not discouraging anyone from attending Chicago (it's a great place with awesome programs) But what does everyone else think about the safety at chicago?

Check out some of the earlier threads. This issue has been discussed at length already.

Scary neighborhoods? Uh, ahh, this ain't Kansas, Dorothy.

Is it me, or is there a search function whose sole purpose is to answer threadbare questions like, "wil da chicago bogeyman get me at hyde park??!" or, "i heard there r mean minorities who live in da area, can any1 confirm...?"

Ok, no need to patronize me and imply that im some kinda naive racist. Sorry im new to these boards and didn't know all the options... actually, im originally from Yugoslavia, which was a pretty scary place in the 90's, but i never thought much of america having problems with poverty, violence, and drugs...and since i moved to suburban texas, i kinda thought the whole US was like the suburbs...lol, it was just a learning experience for me when i saw what some parts of urban life was like in chicago... i didn't mean to offend.

I didn't mean to offend either--wait, I probably did.

The fact that questions about campus safety are more frequent than questions about academia is insulting to the university.

But yeah, anyway, the search function is your friend. Use it early and often.

Jeez guys relax.. No need to freak out about a repeated question.
