Any thoughts on how th academics compare at these two schools?

I haven’t been to both schools, by my impression is that UConn is a better school. Of course, maybe UD has some specialty I’m not aware of.

Both are great schools, but if you live outside Conn. and Del., go to UConn

Elena Delle Donne picked Delaware. :P

Sorry, I can’t resist… I know nothing about Delaware.

My son was accepted to both and is OOS for both. We toured both schools. He liked both campuses, but liked the idea that UDel does have more of a college town feel (Main St and easy access to movie theaters, malls, trains to NYC, Phillie, etc). He also liked the idea that UDel has a higher percentage of OOS students (about 70% vs 30% at UConn).

After touring both, UDel became his 1st choice. After an early acceptance to UConn (in Dec), UConn became more attractive until March when he heard from UDel. He was accepted to some other schools as well but these 2 were at the top of his list all along.

His academic interest is something in the math/statistics/economics area. I think both schools would probably be similar for this, although UDel has a Math and Economics dual program that really appeals to him.

We just did Decision Day at UDel (which conflicted with the one at UConn). He is now 100% sure about UDel and we paid our deposit.

My feeling was he couldn’t go wrong with either.

My daughter is finishing her freshman year at UDel … and transferring to UConn in the fall. It seems as though the academics/program offerings are very similar. I would say it’s more a question of location and typical student. UDel has a nice Main St. but the campus is laid out vertically and it takes a long time to get from one end to the other. Not too conducive to a cohesive campus atmosphere. Also, there is some crime in the area so students need to beware, which they really should be anywhere. UConn is out in the middle of nowhere so my understanding is that there are a lot more on campus activities. And being laid out in more of a square shape it is much easier to get around. Biggest difference is the people I would think. UDel seems to atttract a lot of students from the NY/NJ area. UConn is mostly CT and maybe MA is my understanding?
Just one person’s perspective on the comparison. Good luck, they are both great schools!

I would insist uconn, I have visit it , I believe it may be a better choice
