Canterbury Tales is written in iambic pentameter

oh......yeah. i have an extra-credit assignment i can do for AP lit: write a canterbury tale in rhyming iambic couplets and memorise it and tell it while walking around the school campus with others who also did it

please tell me you're joking!! lol

not at all

That's awesome. I think I might do that for fun, second semester. Better than my English class...we read aloud.

yea english was stupid last year.. we did a 'fun' 3-day diversion on poetry before winter vacation.. we all had to write ballads about school.. lol mine is stupid..i skipped lunch to write it.. but i got an A anyway

As I am walking through the halls,
I see a common sight,
A run-down school with dirt and grime,
That makes me run in flight.

I wish we had the means to buy,
New lights, new books, new boards,
A roof that keeps out all the rain,
Some tellies with their cords?

The classes here are long and dull,
Why are they so damn dry,
Those teachers ramble all day long,
It makes me want to cry.

In French we study dreadful books,
Flaubert, Voltaire and Gide,
In foreign tongue, in foreign speak,
A language I cant read.

Across the hall its Spanish time,
We do not do a thing,
We sit, we hum, we draw, we snore,
Why wont the bell go rrriiinng?

But wait the worst is yet to come,
The class that makes me sigh,
Oh physics is the biggest bore,
It makes me want to cry.

The course that makes me want to die,
Is math that bloody class!
Oh trig is hard enough to learn,
I wonder, can I pass?

Then lunch, the time I talk to friends,
Its here that I relax,
I buy some grub and scarf it down,
But food here tastes like wax.

Right after lunch I go to soc,
We learn about the past,
The fights, the wars, in countries far,
And how the Jews were gassed.

When I go home, I jump in joy
Oh how the time does fly,
Ill have to do it all again,
It makes me want to cry.

Yes and I found out we're like the only town in the world that calls history / SOCial studies, 'soc'... pronounced like 'sock'

lol. chi, everyone's got blonde moments.

well, you actually have blonde hairs, so you're more blonde than me.

dw - we call it social studies in middle school, but when we get to high school, in general people just say what class they're in. they hardly ever even generalize with "history" - they usually say "world history" or "ap euro" or "apush" (ap us history) u get the idea. but yea, i don't think i've ever heard such classes referred to as soc lol it makes you guys special! cool poem, btw. pretty good for a lunch write-up lol

having one blonde hair doesn't mean anything!!!

well, it's one more blonde hair than me ^_^ and you're the one whose hair is more asian than me! mine's not even black anymore!

lol. my is still black on the top. i'm sure we'll be able to find a blonde hair in ur hair, if we look.

nope. i have light dark brown, light brown, and even some red. the lightest i have is probably light brown.

i have too red. we talk about the most random stuff

this is getting ridiculously pointless. it's like a convo between the two of us when we see each other every day anyways! i feel like we're polluting the CC forum...

oh well...

26e- i have to do the same assignment for canterbury tales, except mine is not extra credit, it is our actual assignment instead of writing a paper but we don't have to do the whole walking around the school and reciting it part...ours has to be in middle english too

Blech I hate Iambic Pentameter...
Shakespeare was a poser.

And that is my contribution to this thread for the day... In retrospect, this should have gone in the random comment/stress thread...

sophomore year everyone in the class had to write a Tale. we were each assigned a character and we had to write a Tale for the character in the style of Chaucer - iambic pentameter and all. We put 'em all together to form the BH Tales ^_^

"Shakespeare was a poser."
Shakespeare???

not a big fan of Shakespeare. but i wouldn't go as far as calling him a poser. he was definitely a genius.

umm...yea, i'm still confused... weren't we talking about Chaucer(Canterbury Tales) ?
