Which Universities in the U.K. are known for having the best Economics programs.

London School of Economics
Oxford

ox doesn't have econ. also look at cambridge ucl and ic

LSE, Oxford, Warwick are clearly the top.... and then there's Cambridge, UCL, Essex, York which are also well respected.

Thanks for the info. How would these programs stack up against top U.S. programs like Chicago or MIT.

Also, what about St. Andrews and Glasgow in Scotland? I was told that they are good for Econ.

At Oxford you have to do Economics combined with another subject. There isn't a pure Economics course like there is at Cambridge (and most other UK schools). If you are an international (outside EU) student you are too late to apply for Oxbridge for 2007 entry. They moved the deadline forward to 20th Sept this year. Most other UK schools are rolling admission though.

you can still apply, but you'll be interviewed on campus (which, according to some, is good for admissions even though the schools say it doesn't make any difference.)

Well Harvard, MIT, and U Chicago are the top 3 schools in the world for economics. No comparison to UK schools. (or any other American schools for that matter)

St. Andrews - Most people in the UK (and in the US) hadn't even heard of that little place until the prince decided to go there. (after receiving a less-than-stellar ABC on his A-levels) Who told you they were good for econ?

Glasgow - I'd say it's ok but it doesn't even compare to the original schools I mentioned.

LSE is one of the top ones in the UK for it, but as nauru said that doesn't compare with MIT

I would have to say Oxford, LSE, Warwick, Cambridge, Edinburgh and Manchester.
