U-M contributed more graduating seniors to Teach for America’s 2009 corps than any other school with 10,000 or more undergraduates.

As the highest ranked “large school,” U-M topped such other high-ranked universities as the University of Texas at Austin, Cornell University, and University of California-Berkeley.

“The commitment, passion for public service, and spirit of possibility that U-M grads exhibit make them ideal candidates for Teach for America’s corps,” says Lorraine Anderson, managing director of regional communications for Teach for America.

The 2009 corps consists of 4,100 recent graduates, including 80 from U-M’s graduating class, who will begin teaching in public schools in the fall. Members were selected from 35,000 applicants and held an average GPA of 3.6.
