Who cares about football? Maine Hockey rules!
Go Black Bears!

If you want to see a lot of hockey pictures, go to the McDonalds near the campus and walk around the place.

Agriculture and forestry arenāt touchy/feely subject at all, and Iād think they are vital to Maineās economy both in regions where tourists donāt visit and where they do. Although the other cuts and consolidations are regrettable, that one strikes me as the most disheartening for that particular state.

Agriculture and Forestry are both offered at UNH and Durham isnāt that far away, at least from Southern Maine.

Perhaps, but the northeast isnāt all that big, although you would never know it from CC. Those are the programs my daughter was interested in, but OOS tuition for someone who does not live in the regional tuition consortium is relatively high. There are other good programs in western states that offer good deals to decent OOS students.

The consortium only applies if the other U offers a major that yours doesnāt. Which is fineā¦as long as you donāt have a desire to change majors. Most kids do, AFAIK. Iām not sure how they handle that.

Actually, I think that the costs at the U of ME Orono were pretty high for instate students also, compared to a lot of states. But I havenāt checked for several years.

The good School of Music in the state is actually at the University of Southern Maine, which is part of the state system. Unfortunately, USM isnāt terribly strong in other areas.

Basically, my view is that U Maine Orono is a very limited āflagshipā and becoming more so. If ME and NH combined their resources, perhaps they could create a robust flagship and continue to serve scattered populations with satellite campuses. (Which in Maine at least have been cut back already.)

But it is indeed good to know that they wonāt cut football.

Yes, UMO is expensive for in-state, too. I also checked a couple of online review sites, and wow, was there a negative consensus! I know there are always a few bad reviews on these sites, but UMOās were consistently bad. Maybe we should have moved back to Texas a couple of years ago!

I guess Thoreau was wrong, Texas does have something to say to Maine.
