U. Miami or Chapman?

I'm in a really tough position right now. I am a male from New Jersey and can't choose between two colleges. I am very interested in film production (I have aspirations for Hollywood), but both colleges have pros and cons.

Chapman-
•Brand new film facility
•Working very hard to top USC
•Close to LA

Miami-
•Higher ranked university
•Real college feel (sports, school spirit, etc.)
•I like the campus more

Cons-
Miami has lesser facilities
Miami's frosh dorms suck
students I met claim LA internships were not hard to get in the summer

Chapman has no school spirit, lesser name recognition, and a single focus on film while I'd double major in film/something else at UM

Money is equal.

Please help!

I think you will get better opportunities for film if you go to chapman. You will probally be able to score internships in LA , more so then in miami. Miami is a really good school, but if film is something you really want to persue i would suggest chapman.

thanks for your input!

The thing with Miami is that I'm visiting this week and yesterday, due to meeting the right people in the weirdest places, I ended up attending a film premier with every kid in the film program in attendance. Then, as I was waiting for the shuttle, the UM magazine was opened to an article with giant quotes stating, "everything happens for a reason, there is no such thing as coincidence."

I just have to interpret everything happening as a good thing or bad thing.

Chinaski: Hi! I bet you ran into the kid I told you about at that premier....Anyway, a couple of additional questions:

1) did you visit Chapman? What were your impressions there?

2) PM me and let me know where you live in NJ; just want to help you with fit in terms of Miami V Chapman.....very different student body composition....

To be blunt. If you want to have fun at school go to Miami. If you want to succeed in
the film industry, go to school in southern California. As someone whose family has been involved in the film industry one way or another for the last
75 years, I cant understand why students dont understand the advantage of studying in either NY or LA. When you are looking for work, be sure and mention football and school spirit and take note of the blank stares.

musicamusica: I really understand where you are coming from and that is one of my main concerns, but although Orange is A LOT closer to LA than Miami, without a car is being 40 minutes away from the industry really going to help me?

I want to enjoy college and learn what I need to learn to prepare for a job in the industry, I just don't what to do.

Trust me--you will eventually find a way
to get into town. Remember, you will be there for four years. You will figure it out. There is stuff going on all over southern ca. I live in a small town of
10000 people, about a 45 minute drive to the studios and we had 9 films
shot within 3 blocks of our house. Im not saying that they are going to be
filming within walking distance of your dorm! But really, you do understand that you are just going to make more contacts here.
