U mich essay

I've been staring at the U mich essay topics for more than a week now, I'm totally out of ideas!

(250 words)
“we know that diversity makes us a better university – better for learning, for teaching, and for conducting research.”
Share an experience through which you have gained respect for intellectual, social, or cultural differences. Comment on how your personal experiences and achievements would contribute to the diversity of the University of Michigan.

I just can't think of how i'm "different" from other people that's worthy of/gained me respect.
If you could give me some starting points or how to brainstorm a bit better that would be great!

I'm also a bit confused about whether I have to write specific college essays on top of common app essays for all schools. Do some schools just have their applicants answer the college-specific questions?

Do you have any hobbies that most people aren't devoted to as much as you are?

Have you had any significant experiences (or the way you've dealt with these experiences) that set you apart?

Do you have any physical/personality trait that sets you apart from others?

accept100 im very glad you made this thread. I, too am going to apply to umich and i have nooo idea how to answer that question.

To the poster above, I am a very dedicated runner and watch 9 hours of football on sundays (not sure that's uncommon haha)...my parents are from Turkey...i'm very loyal and introverted. One's cliche and the others just aren't really interesting.

I'm done with my Umich transfer essays(same titles as freshmen essays).

I must say how much I hate these titles, they don't offer you a chance to get creative, it's simply a ''answer my question plainly'' kind of thing.

ok well im a transfer prospect from WMU. I was in new york two or so years ago and i just commented on how such a diverse population can be so interwoven into each other that it seemingly creates its own cultural and that a form of cultural understanding is crucial for the globalized world we are in today. was it a good idea or did i shoot myself in the foot somehow?

Hey, don't feel bad. I don't even know how to answer it, yet. And I'm URM.

yeah we"ll see 5 or so weeks and ill know if it was good enough
