Don’t worry about U-M and financial problems. Right now they are hiring top faculty away from other troubled schools and are in a large building boom. The University of Michigan has positioned itself to maintain it’s excellence over the long haul. The university. being in a state that has a history of recessions, saw the writing on the wall years ago way before most other publics.

Michigan purchased Pfizer’s research headquarters for $107 million after the market crash and is hiring faculty above planned faculty hirings. Financially, Michigan is doing fine. I would not worry about Maryland either.

NEU will cost more than Michigan and is ranked 50 spots lower. Chosing it over Michigan would not be a sound decision.

Thanks all for the input. I am hoping to decide soon and all of the info here is sound and valid. I’ll post it when I know. Wishing everyone a great weekend.

I agree with most people here. If the extra money is any problem at all than go to Maryland. Its pretty close to Michigan in quality and definitely good enough that if you have a high GPA you’ll have no problem getting a job. If $40,000 is no problem than you may want to consider Michigan, though I would still look at both. If you like Maryland a lot more you should go there even if you can afford Michigan.
