<p>To be honest, if I was taking the liberal arts route, I'd probably choose Wash U.</p>
<p>Michigan is a little better academically (higher peer assessment score, more highly ranked programs and departments, better graduate school and professional placement) and is located in a nicer town, but Washington University is a pretty good school, so if you prefer the atmosphere at Wash U., go for it.</p>
<p>He's actually strongly favoring U Mich; just was curious to see what the word "on the street" was. Friends of ours said both schools are great and that Wash U is better academically, but I'm not sure that's true based on, as you said, peer assessment review, academic rankings in Fiske and the WSJ.</p>
<p>I think the top of Michigan's class is probably better than Wash U's, but for the average student, you can get essentially the same education...don't know about resources though...</p>
<p>What is he planning on majoring in? Wash-U is, I believe, the 2nd best school for pre-meds (after jhu). Also, if he's instate, then michigan would def. be a wiser choice</p>
