Hi, I wanted to know that which graduate school is better/more prestigious for electrical engineering, U Mich or Purdue?

Purdue is a great school, but Umich does better in USNews and National research council’s rankings.

Aside from that you’ll be living in Ann Arbor vs. West Lafayette. I would personally never choose West Lafayette over Ann Arbor even if Purdue where the better school.

That’s going to vary on your preference, they are similarly ranked. both state, big ten, etc.

jack63, what does Ann Arbor have over west Lafayette, I’ve never been to either.

ok tell whether gatech is better than purdue and Umich for graduate electrical engineering. It just seems that gatech has a better acceptance rate than both purdue and umich. Moreover I wonder why Gatech isnt a member of American Association of Universities.

Michigan and GT are pretty close in the rankings… Purdue isn’t too far off either. I’d say that it would come down to others factors at this point, like financial burdens. I think GT and Purdue would be less than Michigan in cost, and I’m not quite sure about Purdue but GT is a big public school and thus has lots of opportunities for research (I would think the same for Michigan as well).

Most importantly I’d say is where you wanna live so you’ll stay motivated because EE is difficult enough without hating where you’re at.

Just wondering thoughts on which school. I know Purdue is a great Engineering school, but do the kids from Purdue get the same engineering job opportunities that UM kids do? Also what’s it like to not be engineering at Purdue?

For MSEE, pick the cheaper one. For PhD-track, pick the one with the more desirable advisor if you have one (or is better in your specialization). If you don’t know/haven’t decided and have funding at both, pick Michigan.

Yes, the job prospects are about the same. Non-engineering at Purdue only has a regional reputation, though.

Google Gatech + AAU and you’ll see that Gatech joined them in 2010. As to why they didn’t invite Gatech earlier, it’s because Gatech has climbed up to where it is only in the last 20 years.
