I know this question has been asked before, but I can’t seem to find an answer for this specifically. Our high school does not follow 70-79, 80-89, 90-100 scale. We have 85-91, 92-100 scale. They do not list letter grades, but do include a key showing the corresponding letter grade (no +/-). How does this affect recalculation? Do they follow our scale? It’s hard because an 80 at some schools is a B, while an 84 at our school is a C. I know others deal with similar dilemmas. Also, her transcript only lists semester grades. Do they calculate using separate semester grades or the average for the year. Hoping someone has had a rep explain this. Thanks!
You might need to call and ask but typically A=4,B=3 and so on for all cores classes.
@Knowsstuff thank you. I had called, and the kid who answered just said he didn’t know how they did it. We are going to a college fair tomorrow night. Would that be an appropriate question to ask? We are just trying to learn what they consider her GPA to be.
Of course… You should of asked to speak to someone else. One thing usually about Michigan is they will go out of their way to help you. My son was home the last few days and goes back tomorrow but the opportunities there are great.
Get the AO card, sign any sign up sheet that is there.
If the line is long and your school is unusual not being a standard way to calculate the GPA… This is a great question to email the AO for your school BTW and it’s a nice soft touch of interest.
@Knowsstuff thank you! We had a great conversation with the rep at the college fair and she explained the process to us in detail. Crossing our fingers!
So how do they calculate GPA? My school uses percentage-system which is out of 100, do they enter those numbers in? Or is there any specific range of A, B, C, and F?
I would ask the admissions rep directly this question. However, your school will send a school profile along with your transcript and will use this to assess your grades. UMich knows not every school uses the same grading scale, that is why standardized test scores exist.
Good question for AO but A=4, B=3 and so on. Call to recheck but I think 90 > is an A, 89-89 B and so on but definitely email/call and make sure
@PeaNuTOT sorry I didn’t see your comment until now. The AO for our region told me that they use all classes, including gym, and use a 10 point scale. So, 90-100 = A = 4, 80-89 = B = 3, etc. They do not give more than a 4. They do use your high school’s report to be able to differentiate between schools and will take your transcript into account with regards to rigor.
