U of A for Engineering

Are there any parents or engineering students out there that can speak about the Chemical Engineering Dept. at Alabama? I would define an outstanding school as one that would attract a lot of corporate interest at career fairs or the sponsorship of student professional society meetings. Alabama’s aggressive and generous attempt at attracting top students is very intriguing.

Does anyone what the GPA requirements are to retain the highest levels of merit scholarship money?

My son is a ChemE major at Bama. Since he’s a pre-med student, I haven’t paid attention to what corporations are doing. However, if you email Dr. Heath Turner (dept head) and ask. hturner@eng.ua.edu

Don’t be afraid to email; these profs are pretty good about responding to inquiries.

Typically the best scholarships are given to those who have an ACT 32 (or M+CR 1400 SAT) and a 3.5 GPA (weighted is fine).

Engineering students with those stats get free tuition plus $2500 per year.

HOWEVER, you need to submit your app NOW, because the school app and the scholarship app need to be sent by Dec 1st. And, you have to do the school app FIRST.

What are your stats?

I should add that the state of Alabama is home to the second largest research park in the nation - Cummings Research Park. So, the state has a very large number of high-tech companies here.

I’ve looked at some of your past posts. Are you a parent asking for info for a junior in high school?
