U of A Honors College

Hey I was just wondering how difficult it is to get into the Honors College at U of A. I live in state so its one of the main places I’m looking at. Also do you know how I can look up some information on scholarships ect?

Thanks in advance

anyone?????????????

You might want to specify which of the many U of A's you're talking about...

Which U of A?

University of Arizona

For scholarships, try your state or US website. I know in Alberta, there's a website with all sorts of scholarships avaliable to Alberta students through either the provincial or federal government, as well as private organizations. Also ask your parents; their company might offer scholarships (ie. TransCanada has scholarships for the son/daughter of their employees)

It is easier to get a scholarship then to get into the honors college at this point but it may change. It is fairly easy to get money if you are in state have 1300 and above SATs (old test) and probably 3.8 GPA. The honors college has always been by formula numbers fed into the computer. I believe 4 AP classes and mostly honors 3.8 and higher GPA you can check the website. This year they were talking off looking more at essays and recs and being more flexible. Both of my kids got free tuitition plus at both ASU and U of A. My S got into both honors colleges but my D only got into ASY honors college. She had a 1320 SAT a good GPA and only 3 APs, the rest honors. She was a little off the scale.

I think if you're a national merit finalist, you get automatically into the honors college.

Is there anyone who got in who wouldnt mind posting their stats?

anyone?????????????

I got in and will be attending U of A Honors:
GPA: 3.96 W
3.50 UW

SAT I: 690 M 660 V

SAT II: 680 Writing, 700 Math IC, 620 Bio

Good ECS

I am fairly upset about my measly scholarship offer of $1000 though. I got $6500 from ASU and was expecting about $4000 from U of A. Do you think a call to the scholarship office would help?

I dont think it would hurt. Maybe you could find out the reason for not receiving more.

wait people who got 1350 + in the SAT and are top 15 % of our class got 6000 $ ... and got into the honors college too>

I am talking instate here

Nomad, what school do you go to?

I got in...it was no big deal...they gave me the presidential with 7800 I think...not going to go. But it's easy. Don't sweat.

Catch, could you generally post your stats?

bump............

anyone else???????????

bump............

I love the U. of A. My daughter got into the honors college (but ... sadly ... turned it down). A lot of her friends go there, and they are happy.
Most had high GPAs in addition to a LOT of AP classes. I know that the U. of A. does not weight AP grades.

Being a national merit scholar is a big plus ... they offered my daughter 10,500 a year, renewable for four years. There are additional scholarships, too ... one of her friends got the Murphy, which pays for everything and then some. Another friend we know got the Flinn scholarship, and is traveling in Hungary right now, courtesy of the generousity of the Flinn family.

The U. of A. takes care of its scholars.

One thing I have heard, though ... the honors college is nice, there are perks like being able to take out library materials for six months at a time (I think) and you can register early (a BIG plus) but there are no separate honors classes or honors professors like at ASU.
Still, living in an honors dorm is nice, and you get to mingle with like-minded peers (or at least more academically-oriented ones).

Good luck!
