U of Alabama Birmingham

My D did a walk-in with UAB in Chicago and thought the adjucator, who is the head of the program, was enthusiastic and positive. The MT program is new, but the acting program is not. Does anyone have any insights into either?

I sent you a PM.

We visited the school once before auditions and then went to the school for auditions. We thought the students to be talented and the professors and head of program to be warm and involved. If I remember correctly, Rafe started the program at least 7 years ago, maybe more, and came from Ball State (but I am not certain). When my D was auditioning 2 years ago, the pool was fairly local because they only had on-campus interviews. The program is a BA so there are fewer required classes in the major. The campus is gorgeous. There have been so many new buildings and initiatives.

^^^ UAB is now a BFA Musical Theatre program.

@shaun0203‌…I think you are actually talking about u of Alabama over in Tuscaloosa. UAB is a different school over in Birmingham, AL. Rap he is the head of the u of Alabama program and they still do not go to Unifieds.

My D also did a walk-in at Chicago Unifieds for UAB. Their BFA MT program is new - there is only a freshman class currently in place. We loved the head of the program, Valarie Accetta. We weren’t aware of this program before Unifieds, but we’re now thinking of visiting the school to check it out.

I know someone who just graduated from the acting program at UAB and loved it, and another student who is currently attending as an Acting major who also loves it. The acting program has been around for a long time is very good. MT is new, but I have met the head of the department and was very impressed by her. She really wants to build their young program! Also, their facilities are absolutely beautiful and are first class. Birmingham is a really nice city with lots of great restaurants, music venues, and local theatre.

You are right - I was talking about UA Tuscaloosa - I don’t think UAB MT was around two years ago.
