I am a high school junior considering the Univeristy of Alabama as an OOS-er.
My stats are above average, with a 32 composite ACT, 3.9+/4.0 GPA. I'm not a NMSF or NMF to my knowledge (the test was fairly recent and haven't received the results.) Also, the a conservative list of EC's and I'm captain of Scholastic Bowl and Softball teams.

On paper, I meet the academic requirements for the U of AL University Fellows Experience, but am wondering just how likely my selection into UFE would be. Are most of the applicants accepted into the program? Or is it much the opposite? Any light you could shed on this topic would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

You’ve got great stats and should definitely apply – but selection is far from automatic. My recollection from past posts on the Alabama forum is that there are usually 600+ applicants and 40 or so are selected for UFE (with an average ACT of around 34 for those selected). However, it apparently isn’t the case that the higher the ACT, the higher the likelihood of selection – plenty of students who meet the minimum 32 ACT application requirement are selected. You can get more information from students and parents who’ve actually been involved in the selection process over on the Alabama forum.

Getting into UFE or CBHP is highly competitive at Alabama. Only a small % are admitted.

The average ACT for CBHP is higher than UFE. UFE is less “score aware” because of the nature of the program. It’s more interested in your leadership skills and experience…while CBHP is more interested in research and high academic achievement.

The CBHers are more likely to win national awards…Goldwater, Hollings, USA-Today All American Team, etc.
