U of Arizona vs Arizona State?

I am considering these schools due to school spirit(sports), OOS tuition prices, solid academics, and the girls(some say it's a bad reason, I disagree). However, I don't think i'll be able able to visit till after I get in if it all. Anyone care to share the differences between them? Thanks for your time.

PS By differences I mean feel, campus size, partying, anything you care to elaborate on. Thanks.

U of A is typically better regarded academically. It has lots of top 10 programs - if you're looking to do anything in the sciences, U of A is excellent. It also has one of the best anthropology programs in the country. ASU, on the other hand, has a strong business school.

They both have a kind of similar feel. Lots of school spirit, lots of parties, hot weather, etc.

That said, ASU is more urban, and many would argue that the Phoenix area is much nicer and more vibrant than Tucson (which often gets labeled as "ugly" and "boring"). Either way though, if you're living with 40,000 of your closest friends, it's going to be a fun regardless of the city.

So, personally, I'd pick based on potential major.

my major is economics, is asu a commuter school? I;m reading reviews on studentreviews.com and it seems a lot of people think that people don't live on or close to the campus after freshman year.

Obviously, as an urban school, there are going to be lots of people who live off campus. But keep in mind that with 40,000 people, even if only 15% live on campus, that's still 6000 people. Plenty to party and hang out with.

(By the way, I have no idea if the 15% thing is accurate, I pulled that number out of nowhere)

I have been thinking about this question for months, and recently I decided U of A is the way to go.

Both of these schools are extremely similar, but they're are enough reasons to choose one over the other.

I prefer U of A because the school is more residential. And as an OOS student I'd prefer that most freshman lived on campus instead of still living at home. Also U of A's campus is much nicer in my opinion. And another reason is that Tuscon is about 10-15 degrees cooler than Tempe. I also prefer U of A's athletic/school spirit seen to ASU's. U of A has a higher attendance then ASU in football, and in basketball it's not even close. Socially the schools are very similar...both of these schools are major party schools.

And lastly U of A has a stronger reputation...and there business schools are pretty much equal. Both top 25 in the country so you can't go wrong either way.

good luck and go wildcats

I believe Playboy magazine rated ASU women the hottest a few years back.

For academics, yes, University of Arizona is more highly regarded than ASU.

it all depends which department.

Is there any specific area that you would love to focus on within economics, would you have a minor, etc?

Well I like breakdancing and will take creative writing and poetry classes. I also will do improv theatre and maybe rugby. Not so sure on economic focus. Econ of sports and labor econ interest me though.

asu has one of the best programs for creative and journalistic writing
