Should I dress really formal???

No, you shouldn't. Your interviewer probably wont. I think I wore some black pants and a pretty unoffending shirt to mine; so long as it isnt a tshirt with travis barker's face on it im sure you'll be fine. maybe dress like you would for a nice restaurant. And relax! itll be fun.

i wore some khaki shorts and a polo.

My daughter wore a lime green tank top, an indian print skirt and pink sneakers. Her interviewer had on jeans and a sports shirt and had dreadlocks. They really hit it off and he ended up being a big supporter of her application to Chicago. Anyway, she got in and is now enjoying her third year there. Be yourself and be clean and respectful, but you don't have to dress formally if that is not your style.

My D dressed similarly to newenglandparent's D and assuredly had the same interviewer. He was the first step and a major factor in her deciding that UChicago was No.1 on her list. So remember, the interview can do as much to sell the school to you as it does to sell you to the school. That's why varsity1AC is right to say it'll be fun.

S interviewed on campus and wore a sweater and jeans. He had dress pants, but chose not to wear them because he was sitting in on a couple of classes before the interview and didn't want to stand out. He said the interview was fun, too.

He's now a very happy first year.

yeah, i just interviewed and it was great. Not at all what i expected. We talked about native americans, and the governments responsibility toward them, and jack kerouac, and the use of mandolins in led zeppelin's later albums, and the greatness of john paul jones's chord progression during the "stairway" solo and how it really made the solo what it is, and how horrible the atlanta airport is, and how much easier and more fun trains are, and all kinds of other stuff. That's what made UofC my number one choice. Also, i wore kind of a striped collared shirt and khaki pants, but i also had long shaggy hair and a nice little beard, so i don't think i looked to fancy. The interviewer was wearing more or less the same thing and looked a lot like Conan O'Brian. The interview was really fun, i actually felt really comfortable and didn't want to leave when it was over.

Long shaggy hair and scruffy beard: you'll fit right in!
