<p>The University of Chicago has been my dream school my entire life and that was only enforced when I visited it.I would like to know if I even have a chance of getting in.
I live in the middle of nowhere, South Dakota. I come from a poor rural farm family (read: <$40,000 a year, combined) where I've worked my entire life with my dad who is divorced. I'm of Chinese descent from my mothers side.
EC's:
- captain of the varsity football team, which I've played on for 2 years
- competed in varsity track for 2 (will be 3) years and qualified for state
- 4 years playing Double Bass, 1st chair this last year.
- I am almost an Eagle Scout and have put in many hours of community service
I got a 31 on the ACT, and am retaking it this October. I have an unweighted GPA of 3.6, but that will go up significantly after this semester, which are all AP classes.
Schools I'm hoping for:
U of Chicago
u of Wisconsin
U of Minnesota
South Dakota State (hopefully a safety)
I know I'm very weak in the EC's, but it's all I've been able to fit in between sports and work.</p>

<p>Would getting a higher ACT (33-34) help, or am I too far in the ****ter to make U of C? I knew that would be a far reach, but I put it out there anyway, thanks for the input.</p>
<p>U of Chicago: NOT AN EXTREME REACH, More like a Reach but with good essays you can definetly pull of an acceptance here.

<p>I disagree I think that you're strong not AMAZING, but a good applicant. I wouldn't call Eagle Scout a weak EC in fact its an excellent EC that shows dedication and leadership. Retake the ACT if you want and get a 32+ will help your cause at U of C.</p>
<p>Chicago is quite a reach. Next year will be more competitive than ever, and your act score is unremarkable. If you get a 33+ your chances are boosted greatly, and you should definitely finish up that Eagle Scout.</p>
<p>chicago's mid-act range is 28-33, so your act is okay, although a higher score couldn't hurt. the gpa will probably hurt you, but i wouldn't call chicago an "extreme reach."</p>
