I was on track sophomore year and I was employed for three months the summer of my junior year.

I wrote some excellent application essays (Find X, Why Chicago, and the optional one) and my letters of recommendation are nothing less than glowing. I'm Arab-American if that helps any in terms of diversity.

P.S. I'll be sure to chance any of you back if you ask. Honesty is much appreciated.

Um, I’m new to this so I don’t know what my opinion counts for…
But I think you have an o.k. shot at it. Your SAT seems a little on the low side… But Overall you look like a pretty strong applicant.

My course load rigor is actually as difficult as it could be at my school. Chemistry 2, Physics, AP Government and AP Calculus BC are only offered senior year.

You are qualified but not too competitive.
I don’t really understand UChigago sometimes b/c a girl I know applied a few years ago with a 2350/1460 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA, and several AP tests with all 5s and one 4. She was rejected from UChigago, waitlisted at Harvard, and accepted to Princeton with scholarship. I do think UChigago is very competitive to get into. Good luck though!

Chicago is a reach for you, but they care A LOT about the essays, so if you really think you killed those you have a shot. Find x was really fun to write for me (I also applied EA). If you want to see some more chancing on UChicago and Cornell you can look at a chance thread I created a while back for those schools.

ajsz033: from what I understand, Chicago looks at applications a little differently than other schools. While they are very selective, the kids they accept aren’t necessarily the same ones who’d get accepted at HYPS (though those kids probably would get accepted at UChicago, too, in most cases)

You look like the Top 3 student in YOUR school, but the lack of taking courses outside of your school suggests a lack of want to expand your horizons and challenge yourself as much as possible (just being nit-picky). Academics, on the whole, are all right, but your ECs are troubling. You have nothing significant which you’ve carried all four years of high school. It doesn’t look good that you’ve dropped out of Quiz Bowl, and you have a lot of clubs that you picked up junior and senior year, which is not good either. Also, no community service? All ECs are in-school activities. Your essays and recs must be great. Chicago is very unpredictable in their admissions, so I can’t say whether you’re in or not, but I’d say it’s iffy. They like quirky, out-of-the-box thinkers, and your application does not suggest that. It’s all dependent on your essay and recs. Good luck though.
