I am looking to major in athletic training and exercise science/physiology/kinesiology. From looking at U of Chicago's site, it doesn't appear that they offer any of these. Is that correct? I just want to be sure before I take them off my very long list haha. Thanks.

How keen of you to inquire. Indeed, the university does offer this major under the DPS (Department of Practical Studies). Understandably, they keep this information on the down-low to protect the university’s reputation and you will have to speak in code. Call the admissions office and ask for Carl Sagan…they will point you in the right direction.

Well, er, there might be one or two courses offered by the Biology department, but my understanding from other students is that these exist more as easy A’s for people who are allergic to science and need to fulfill the Bio requirement. So, I would cross U Chicago off your list.

^^^^ That’s funny, UChi has one of the best, if not the best, economics programs in the world.

I really don’t want to turn this into an argument thread. But objectiveperson, you seem to be stating that because the Chilean economic reforms of the 80’s were undertaken by UChicago grads, the Dept. itself is responsible for the Chilean dictatorship. Did I mention that said Junta doesn’t exist anymore and that Chile’s economy is one of the best in South America now? So, I think we can agree that UChicago’s econ dept. is pretty dang awesome.

In response to the actual topic of this thread: I don’t see why U of C would have a “secret major” to protect prestige. I think that if they aren’t up front about this program, they aren’t particularly proud of it or said program doesn’t even exist. I would cross it off =(

This isn’t the kind of program that most of the top private schools offer, though many state schools (such as University of Illinois) do.

I suppose about the closest thing you could do would be major in biology and maybe get a certificate in personal training on the side from elsewhere if you really have a serious interest in UChicago, despite the lack of a compatible program.

As I continue in my college search, I am realizing that I won’t be able to afford any schools that use noncustodial parent financial info to determine aid. UChicago is one of these schools, which eliminates it whether it has the major or not. Thanks for all of your help.
