This is silly, without Tasers they use OTHER dangerous methods.

Chemical Mace - Many people are allergic to this. Rare to see it used. Has caused fatalities.
Pepper Spray - Ineffective
Choke Holds - Known to cause severe injuries. Has caused fatalities.
Batons - Known to cause severe injuries. Has caused fatalities.
Water cannon - LOL.
Sticky Foam - Used by the Marines but found to have to many problems to be practical.

You see… There aren’t many non-lethal options. Tasers are still the best option.

So, some people die… Life sucks, deal with it. The point of the Tasers is not that they are safe but that they are safer than getting shot and safer than the previous methods used.

Police use force. That’s the point. We could have a nonviolent, unarmed police force but that doesn’t do England any good does it???

Savage, wasn’t he? No, quite the contrary. Not only was he a gentle officer who for a short time befriended a little boy and forever changed his life. He was also a Marine and gentleman. A big Brooklyn salute to the bevy of cop haters here on the site.
RIP Officer Henwood.

The personality of law enforcement officers has been made a topic of discussion on this thread. The comment I referenced on another thread is very relevant to that discussion.

May I suggest you find a thread to read where the comments are more to your liking?

This guy could have been deranged. He could have been potentially violent because of some drug use etc. If he were given sufficent warning and did nothing, I don’t blame the police. Frankly, this may be a tragic incident, but if I were a jury, I would award the family nothing from this suit.

The previous article also stated tasers are only legal in Germany and France, but The Guardian reported a taser death in England last week, I am recalling. The France tasing article was dated 2010.

I can’t believe this thread continues. I am neither for nor against ‘tasers’, but I agree that any other method of subduing someone out of control is also potentially dangerous or fatal. Tasers can be dangerous…don’t do anything to put yourself in a position that you could be tased. I think we can (almost) all agree on that. And, police are people too…no one is perfect…I don’t think you can generalize a ‘personality type’ for any specific person involved in this incident.

And…parent1986…what the h*ll do you keep posting about this for? This has got to be the least productive use of your time if you have decided to dedicate your life to these issues. Posting all you ever wanted to know and more about something obvious even to my 7 year old on a college forum. Go out and get a coffee…take a deep breath…write your local, state, and federal representatives…anything…but for god’s (and all of our’s) sake, give it a rest. I think we get the gist of how you feel about this issue
