Hi there, Anyone have any information on the U of CO Leeds School of Business in terms of academics. In the Honors and/or Top Scholars programs, in particular. Thanks!
I don’t really see CU Boulder as a center for business. Its a math and science focused college, with a conservatory level music program and very well ranked engineering . While Leeds does have ties to Denver, if you want to work in New York City, I would stay on the east coast. If you
may want to stay in Colorado after graduation, also look at U of Denver, a private school with a top business program.
Leeds is a bit more selective than CU Boulder Arts and Science programs, but paradoxically, the physics, math and chemistry in Arts and Sciences is way better ranked than Leeds and way better known.
Leeds may work well if want to become an accountant. It is good for a marketing degree.
If you want to study accounting, You will still need a masters degree in accounting in most states
to become a certified public accountant.
Leeds may not give you the math and contacts you need for a top finance job,
unless you create that yourself over in the math department. (getting a math degree would be wiser,
and apply to a top MBA program if you want a very high level job in finance, banking etc.
There is a weak technology transfer group at CU Boulder. Some business students will try to intern there, and its mostly about managing a very small patenting budget for engineering faculty, as they don’t really fund patents all that well so far at CU Boulder. They simply do not have the funds for patenting that bigger technology schools on either coast have.
One of my friends at CU Leeds just landed an IB job with JP Morgan so this lady doesn’t know what she is talking about. Leeds can place you in NYC or SF if you really want.
Here are Leeds placement stats, 63% of graduates get placed in Colorado, 20% placement on west coast, 5% get placed in the northeast in jobs: (look under geography near bottom of page).

Here is one ranking for finance programs, undergrad. I tend to agree with this ranking, but there are a number of opinions out there about business schools. . CU is still a ranked
program, but it has a lot of local placements for jobs.

Goldman Sachs, Citi and MS are also know to recruit out of Leeds and the university as a whole
@Coloradomama probably need to update your sources as Leeds is much better than you think. I personally know my friends son just landed a IB position in Chicago. Your relying too much on rankings and general info.
But here are some rankings. First number is for all universities, second is for pubic universities. Top 20 for public universities seems pretty good to me and top 50 for all programs does too.

I sat in on Investment Club when i toured the campus and the program was sponsored by an ex-Goldman Sachs Prop Trader. The b-school has exceptionally high caliber faculty and equally as capable students as any elite college.
The companies you mention hire at a lot of universities.
For future reference, take rankings with a grain of salt. What if it changes for the worse when a student is there? See what school fits and college is what a student makes of it.
Rankings don’t usually move that fast and that are a useful tool when determining college selection. Someone has already done a lot so research for you already.
I think its more about where one wants to work at the end of the day. CU Business school is good for west coast jobs but not so much if your goal is Wall Street or government related east coast. Yes, a few CU Leeds Grads do go east, but you can look up the placement numbers and the vast majority find jobs in state or go west. If you want to work in NYC or Washington DC, there are schools with good scholarships that have better connections back east. If you want to work in Denver, Phoenix, LA or SF, then CU looks good to me. Colorado is growing though for business related work, so many Leeds grads want to stay in Colorado anyway.
