I have narrowed my college decision to these schools. Although, u of I will release decisions Friday I’m confident they will accept me. I am an Illinois resident. I am going to major in accounting. U of I is #2 in accounting while osu is #10; however, osu has offered me a full tuition scholarship while I expect 0 from u of i. Any thoughts on where I should go. I have talked to teachers and most say u of I while others say osu. Most of the teachers from my school are u of I grads so their opinion might be bias. Is the extra cost worth it? Thank you in advance for any ideas.
OHIO STATE!
Goodness, go with the money. Splitting hairs, where there aren’t even any real official rankings and both considered excellent is silly. Sure some will have an instate bias and some with have an oos bias but that has nothing to do with your education and costs.
@illinoisgolf @brownparent thank you for replying
A full ride scholarship is quite enticing. However I’d like to offer a couple of things for consideration.
If you haven’t done so already, I would definitely make a campus visit. I strongly recommend “shadowing” a student if that is possible. (I know you can arrange this at UIUC CoB; not sure of Ohio St) Why do I feel so strongly about this?My son has a good friend who was offered a free ride, but after visiting the school (to everyone’s surprise), he was convinced it wasn’t the right fit. I can’t imagine what it would have been like for him if he had decided to attend based solely on the money he would have saved.
Also, I would do more research on both schools. Make sure the school you select to attend provides some flexibility if you choose to change your major. Does it accept AP credits? Are students able to find internships? Are you interested in studying abroad? What percentage of students graduate with jobs? Where are graduates highly recruited? For instance, my daughter hopes to find employment in Chicago and that was a factor in choosing UIUC for her.
Whatever you choose, I wish you the best!
@fbi251 both you and my son’s friend got full tuition scholarships and I mistakenly typed “full rides”. Sorry for the mistake, but congratulations on the achievement.
@88jm19 thanks
