I live in IL, and want to go to U of I for Journalism.
I haven't taken any tests, but on a practice ACT i got a 29 and on my PSAT i got an 1880.
I will be graduating with 7 credits of English as opposed to the required 4, mostly because i was planning on graduating early but it fell through.
My grades are pretty bad. i was getting a 3.6, but i got into an incrediably serious car accident and missed three weeks of school last semester, which didn't help my already mediocre grades and brought my GPA down to a 3.2

my extracurriculars by graduation will be-
Newspaper- 4 years(possibly editor)
Theatre- 4 years
Speech- 2 years
Radio- 2 years
4-H- 7 years(2 of which i was a treasurer)

Do i have any chance, given the poorness of my grades?
Thank you!

Hey! Wow, I go to U of I and I absolutely love it here! If you already applied, you have made an excellent choice, and if you haven't, you definitely should apply! It's really amazing here!

I think you have an excellent chance of getting in here! Your ACT is great. You have a lot of great extracurriculars that correlate with your intended major, and they really like that. I have a friend who entered the university as an engineer, but he only got a 26 on the ACT. The reason they picked him was because he was working at an engineering firm and helped to design a football stadium back home. So, at UIUC, they really do pay close attention to your extra curriculars and if they apply. You might want to mention that you were in a car accident somewhere in your application or something like that, that could help.

So, I think you have a pretty good chance, although I have heard of some pretty smart people being wait-listed for journalism. But, I still think that you stand a very good chance and will most likely get in. I myself am actually looking to transfer into UIUC journalism or media studies, so wish me luck too.

Good Luck
