Has anyone heard anything about it? Thanks for your reply. (I have to give notice in a week.)

Deadline has passed. GAH :(

I know. They told me I got accepted but I am wondering if anyone had thoughts or opinions about it. alumis are welcome to share their experiences, in fact, please do. thanks.

SIGH WHy didn't I apply to it earlier?!??!?!?

Anyways - what were your stats and how competitive was it? I think these less competitive programs may accept more people and I'm as desperate as hell to get a research position - even if it means flying to Wyoming.

damn right. i am probably as desperate as you for a research position. ive applied to a bunch. some as prestigious as nasa sharp but others not so much. i dont know how competitive it is and that is why i m making this trend. i just want to leave this ****ing place for the summer. i live in miami, florida. my stats are good but arent great. i did get defered from ssp as u may remember. im a sophomore. my only real research in lab was in eighth grade though my project this year on my own got me to compete in states. i dont have anything that would make ppl go wow. just an avg kid.

Same!!

Did you apply to the SSTP? (the one in UFlorida?) That doesn't look competitive - it hasn't even reached its maximum limit of students - 100 students in any of its previous years.

Anyways - the summer math program at the local university accepted me so I'm going somewhere this year. Still, it isn't research.

in fact im working on my application right now. it is somewhat competitive i must say (how do u know it hasnt reached it max yet?) i looked at their past participants and one of them was one of the two science winners from florida last year, i know at least two of all the participants are going to isef this year. not sure what project they are taking though.. it might have been done there or somewhere else.

Just because a couple of participants attending the program have gotten top honors doesn't mean that the program is extremely competitive. ALso - looking at the roster - there are a lot of blacks and few Asians. Usually, the demographics of very competitive summer research program tend to be around 70% White, 25% Asian, and the rest minorities although that's just a pure educated guess on my part. And it doesn't practice AA - it doesn't even ask for race. While there can be qualified blacks, this program has an unusually high number of them (usually most prestigious summer research programs that are really competitive have 1-3),

Go to SSTP's alumni pages for the last few years. There are fewer than 100 people for every year and the program says that it will accept "up to 100 qualified people".

i called it somewhat not extremely. you know what? im just gonna let them be. there isnt much i can do about it other than apply and hope for the best. (i cant bash them about how they dont practice AA in my essays) that maybe their maximum limit but i still doubt they just accept everyone that applies.

Yeah - probably not everyone who applies although I have the impression that since they haven't ever filled up - there aren't very many highly qualified applicants applying.

Have you looked into the research program at UWyoming yet? My concern: it doesn't even have a webpage but it's still in www.sciserv.org

Also - why are you filling out the SSTP application when you've been accepted into the UIowa program? A chance to choose, I suppose?

i dont know myself. i suppose it is for a chance to choose but im also thinking im doing it just for the hell of it to know i applied to what i could and wouldnt regret stuff later. i dont know what more i can say about UF SSTP. i dont think i ahve looked at the wyoming program. if u want to go there, i suggest you email the person in charge. i had to do that for several on sciserv.

i dont think we are eligible and anyways the deadline passed
http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/oma/programs/srap/forms/srap_student_app.pdf

Damn... Where else are you applying? (or have heard of) there are really few. WHat about Stevens ECOES? Really short and since I got accepted to a longer program I prob won't go there but would like another summer 6 week prog to aply to.

what else have you been accepted to? hmmm i was going to apply to e^2 at umd, idaho jems, curie academy as workshops if i didint get in anywhere but i guess im not doing those anymore. but now its all about uf sstp and frontiers of sicence in colorado (they accpet non residetns but there arent scholarships if u dont live there so w.e.) where else are u applying?

frontiers of sicence in colorado looks interesting but the app deadline is April 1st - dang - and I need a rec from my English teacher...this sucks... 'cuz she'll have to write it in a week and I wasn't especially emotionally mature in that class either...

So now I'm focusing all my efforts on UF SSTP. I don't know of being accepted anywhere else. I'm also writing two other summer prog apps but I have 0% chance to both of them.

i used to live in iowa city (where UofI's located) and let me tell ya, do i miss that city. i haven't ever heard of the program before until i saw this thread, but good luck to all those applying!

o ok bump to anyone who has heard of this program. I only have a week to give them a reply by. ALUMNIS??

Umm - even if we turnthem down? I think's it's a good idea to e-mail that question...

they waive that fee if u an out of state applicant since you are not eligible for their scholarships but you will have to pay the program cost of about $2000 and soem dollars. i have to exact cost soemwhere. wil post later.

alumnis please answer.
