U of M Dorms

Okay, is anybody else freaked out about so many of the dorms sharing bathrooms... My kid is extremely private so sharing a bathroom with several rooms isn't going to happen. Can someone at U of M explain this. Am I reading something wrong or is this more common that I thought? If so, what are her chances of getting a 2 person suite in Middlebrook or Frontier at this point?

OmgMom…If you get the Housing App turned in early and request Middlebrook I would think there would be a decent chance since many of the rooms there are doubles or suites. I think the major difference between a double and a suite there is that suites have individual sinks (not sure if there’s 2 or 4) and some type of common living area. In either case, there is at least a semi-private bathroom shared by 4 instead of 14-18 students. That was a big factor in D1 requesting Middlebrook first. If your D/S is invited to join Honors, they’re guaranteed housing in Middlebrook. The other dorms have fewer suites by far.

If your kid is going to freak out about the bathrooms, apply RIGHT NOW for a Middlebrook, because I think that all the rooms have a semiprivate bathroom–shared between two rooms and four students. I didn’t think about that what I applied for housing, and I really wish I had thought more about having to share showers with 40 other girls with long hair. Eww!

I agree with Wolverine and MinnesotaGirl. Tell your kid to try for Middlebrook with the semi private bathrooms. I felt the exact same way before I moved in, but after awhile, you tend to get used to sharing a bathroom with a lot of people. Most people tend to have completely different schedules, so you end up getting the entire bathroom to yourself sometimes. I would worry about the showers more than anything. For some reason, there is never a line on my floor, but I have heard of a lot of horror stories regarding this. Hopefully everything works out though.
