U of M LSA economics

Hi, I'm still waiting for my preferred admit decision for Ross, but I'm quite sure that I'll get denied... I want to major in business, but obviously, LSA doesn't have a business major. If I'm rejected by Ross, I have to major in economics (most likely). How is it like? Is it really different from what you learn at Ross? If I want to transfer to Ross after my freshman year, will it be really really hard?

OR I have another option. I am waitlisted at NYU Stern. I have to send in my deposit for UM first, but I'm gonna wait and see what happens. If it is really hard to get into Ross as a transfer, wouldn't it be better to just go to Stern if I get off the waitlist? I really want to study business... I love U of M, but getting into Ross seems so hard. What should I do?

Most students get admitted into Ross after their freshman year. Not many are “preadmitted” to ross. Ross is actually not “difficult” to get into. If you participate in a business club/employment, have good grades in math and econ, and have the ability to write a descent essay, your chances of getting into Ross are pretty good. Its just that a huge amount of people apply to Ross without the previous criteria that makes Ross seem very selective. If you don’t get in take Econ as your major. Economics is pretty good at the university of michigan considering that most people who are qualified for business but don’t get into Ross major in economics.

hey J89,
I got admitted to Umich as an econ major. but I really want to be part of Ross. So for transfer students is it hard to get into ROSS as compared to freshmen? I feel like I can do so much better in Ross than LSA

Ross is a 3-year program regardless of when you are admitted. Thus it is tough for transfers as you have to spend at least one more year.
