Please help U of M or Clemson? and the weather does not matter, mainly academically.

I had to make that decision a while ago. Depends on what you are studying.

Have been to both. For any urban person UMinn easily. Clemson is a very southern school in a small southern town. Also think UMinn is a better school in most things.

What does anyone say is a better subject to study at Clemson than Minnesota? Minnesota is strong in a lot of different major fields, and definitely better known around the country and around the world.

They’re ranked equally. and Clemson is MUCH better known in the south (i’m from the south, and had to make the same decision) for what i am studying (genetics) UM happens to have a much superior program. I have not looked into other majors, but you simply have to do the research and look at what you want to study at both schools. They each have their strengths.

Just as Minnesota is MUCH better known in the Midwest. If you are concerned with getting a job in the Midwest or Southeast specifically, the choice is pretty easy. Basically the the U of M has a slight advantage in most areas although not enough to make a big difference if you really prefer the feel and campus of Clemson. Sports are about the same at both: hyped up to begin the season, average teams throughout, and then they both choke in the big games at the end of the year. Minnesota, as has been mentioned, is a lot more urban.

UMinn has a MUCH higher world and US ranking–by around 100+ spots.

i don’t believe thats very reputable, i have NEVER seen Duke ranked below the University of Maryland… haha. I agree that UM is better than Clemson, obviously, i chose UM, but they are ranked both 61st (shared also with Texas A&M, Purdue and Fordham) on most sites i’ve looked at, and US news is considered pretty reputable.

Actually it’s pretty reputable. Large state schools (ie the University of Minnesota) have larger reputations overseas than top private schools like Duke, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, etc. Minnesota, along with UW Madison, have very high reputations internationally. Nationally Clemson and Minnesota are abou the same, but overseas Minnesota has much more clout. I’d say that this shouldn’t make much of difference in your decision though, especially if you aren’t planning on moving overseas.

Pick the one you think feels right, there isn’t much of a difference academically or reputation wise in the US.

BTW What are you looking at? Maryland(30) is ranked lower than Duke (24).

my bad, misread it. most people are looking at domestic rankings is what i’m saying. but, you are right in going with your gut, its truly the only way to pick - rankings really dont matter.
