Hi, I'm doing a school presentation on a famous lawsuit. I decided to pick Gratz v. Bollinger. The Supreme Court case where Gratz sued U of Michigan after being denied admission to U of Michigan as an undergraduate.

I know that it was 20 points for URM status and 12 points for a perfect SAT score.

It gave points for alumni status, disadvanataged backgrounds, GPA, curriculum rigor and other things.

Does anybody know how many points were given and for what?

For example, how many points did GPA and curriculum rigor get?

Take note that nearly every representation of the index system I've seen is for LSA only. Engineering students had a slightly different index where the math portion of standardized tests was given more weight.

Also...if you go onto the Michigan Review's website, it actually has a calculator that will tell you what your admissions status would be given the old system.

And for anybody else who cares....race preferences in admissions is a HUGE issue on campus. Bigger than almost anything (inc. the war in Iraq, abortion etc). Its gonna be even bigger b/c of MCRI being on the ballot in 2006. So its good for all you potential students to get acquainted w/ the issue before joining us in Ann Arbor.
