U of Minn (Carlson) vs. IU (Kelley)

I currently live in MN (Bemidji State University), I have an uncle who lives in a suburb of Minneapolis.

I've been accepted to IU already. I'm still waiting on Carlson, but I'm pretty confident I will get in to Carlson. But now I'm unsure on were to go.. I'd love to live in the city, but IU has a lot of Pro's too

IU's Pros:

Better ranked (hence better recruiting)
Sociable School
IB Workshop
Teaching is rated better than Carlson's
Better weather

IU's Cons:

Rural setting (although its near Indianapolis I'm not familiar with the city)
No family to visit during weekend (not a big deal, I've gone 2-3 times to mpls to visit family)
Considerably more expensive than U of M (Haven't received Aid Packet yet)
No direct admit to Kelley, have to apply after being in IU for one semester

U of M Pros:

Direct admit to school of business
Great city, and I'd live right on the city
Good recruiting
Many corporations around the area
Applied for Financial Aid + Scholarships

U of M Cons:

Weather (but I've lived with it for 2 winters already, not a big deal)
Not as prestigious as IU

I'd really like to live in the city, but my ultimate goal is to land a good internship and job so I could sacrifice the city life i suppose, as I said I know nothing about Indianapolis, how cosmopolitan is it?

Thanks, any feed back would be appreciated..

kelley is not that hard to get into direct nor is it hard to get in traditionally i would choose indiana
just make u take the required courses

Here's what I think.

IU: Better ranked (hence better recruiting)
MN: True, but how reliable are rankings. Minnesota actually has great recruiting due to being in a large city with lots of companies.

IU: Sociable School
MN: don't really know what you mean, they are both public and big

IU: IB Workshop
MN: Do you actually want to do IB? Also, it isn't like IU guarantees you will get into it as most IB's only look at school prestige and therefore only recruit at ivies and a few others.

IU: Teaching is rated better than Carlson's
MN: I would think you'll have your good and bad teachers anywhere you go.

IU: Better weather
MN: Better is relative. Maybe there is less snow or what-not, but IU certainly won't be a picnic each day. It has winter too.

I actually though IU had direct admit, but maybe they don't either way, yes, the U does.

I certainly second the fact that Minneapolis is a great city. I'm not a huge fan of being right in the middle of the city, but I like the fact that the Metrodome (Twins and Vikings fan) and other sources of entertainment are close by.

I'm biased because I'm going to attend the U next fall, but certainly they are both great choices. Maybe IU is better, but is it enough to justify the added cost? I honestly don't think so. You like the city and UMN is in the city. You are concerned about recruiting and the location makes internships and job offerings abundant.

Also, Carlson is in the process of making a push to really improve its program making it even higher quality. They have a new undergrad building which is very nice (I got a tour) and require all students (starting w/ class of '12) to have a study abroad experience.

Those are my feelings. I don;t think you can go wrong in your decision, so good luck with it.

Thanks for the input.

I was leaning towards U of M, but my dad is kinda pushing me towards IU because it is a better school. Even though he has always wanted me to go to the U because he graduated from it, but he recognizes that IU is better. I'm still waiting to hear back from Carlson before I make a decision.

Iville, are you going to Carlson next fall..

I'd be a Junior BTW.. not freshman..

Yes, I will be at Carlson next fall. Between living fairly close in a Twin-Cities suburb and scholarships totaling full tuition, it was an offer I couldn't refuse.
