Sometimes the process seems almost random. There are lots of qualified applicants and they can’t take them all. On another forum, someone got into MIT but was waitlisted at Case Western Reserve!
My brother went to Harvard, Yale, and now works at McGill, he also has a GED and dropped out of highschool. He met and got to know the admissions staff at these colleges along his journey and best described it as highly selective first, then highly arbitrary. They make the first pass based on all the stats you see posted then have very quick group talks to decide on specific students and things like, have we admitted anyone from that state come into the discussion. So being waitlisted means you made it past the highly selective barrier but unfortunately not past the highly arbitrary barrier, and you really can’t control that at all.
Hi Guys,
I was accepted to URochester on 3/9/18. I haven’t received any email regarding merit scholarships. Is it safe to assume that I didn’t receive any at this point? I think that I have a good chance bc I demonstrated interest and I received a 25k per yr merit scholarship from CWRU. I would really like to attend here so if someone could tell me something it would be greatly appreciated.
Also if anyone was accepted in the 3/9/18 wave AND received merit or financial aid could you please let me know when you received it? Very nervous since this is my top school.
Hi my son got admitted and vongrats to all who got admitted. He got merit 1st and financial aid.like 2 weeks back. My only concern is the continuity of aid. My financial conditions r not that great, so they say they meet demonotrated need every year…anyone has any feedback please
@phemrajani I loved my visit there. I went for the early access experience and stayed overnight. The other admitted students were very nice and interesting. The dorms are pretty big for doubles. My host and her roommate were very nice. The food wasn’t that good tbh. The campus is beautiful. I went while it was snowing so it was a bit annoying but I still loved how it looked. I went to a biology lecture and I loved it. Big class sizes aren’t so bad after all. The professor was very nice and he taught really well. I met admission counselors and they were awesome. They made me feel at home. We saw a student show case, after hours (an a cappella group) performed. They were great. I have lots more to share so if you or anyone else want to hear more or ask questions, feel free to private chat me.
@pilotb757 There’s something called holistic review. SAT scores aren’t the only indicator of someone’s potential. Sorry to hear your daughter didn’t get in. But it is what it is. You shouldn’t make someone’s earned acceptance feel like they just got in because of their skin.
@panicatthepilot thanks for the information, it is helpful. We are waiting for other results, most probably we will visit this college in April.
I haven’t heard yet. Anyone knows if sth coming tomorrow?
@Elhabashy they haven’t really announced any of the times, my daughter found out a few days ago so think they won’t have another batch till next week but who know. We just kept checking here for new posts good luck!
@tz6616 Congrats on your admittance to Fordham!!! Fordham University is a really good school. I applied their because they have a really nice Comp Sci undergrad program, but I was rejected.
@tz6616 yep
Finally got my financial aid! Better than we expected.
Still haven’t heard anything… when is the next wave of admission
Anyone accepted on 3/21 hear about merit aid yet?
@jjh28 ya I heard about a week after my acceptance.
I got admitted March 21st buy no merit aid letter as yet
Heard the 21st, no word yet on merit.
DOes that mean guaranteed transfer?
I got in. How long does it take to receive the FA offer?
