^^^ Answered. I confirmed with my lad that he still is fine with answering questions, both about undergrad and med school. I hope the late season storm doesn’t interfere with visit plans for anyone.
FWIW, I asked my guy once about the weather and if he regretted choosing URoc (esp since his brother chose a FL school on the water). His reply? “No, not at all. The tunnels are great and they clear the snow just fine. It’s not like I’m shoveling. If I were in FL I’d probably have difficulty wanting to spend time studying.” That is, of course, just his opinion, but the weather definitely doesn’t bug him. At one point he almost didn’t apply there to begin with due to it since we’re further south in PA. He changed his mind last minute and calls that “the best decision I almost didn’t even make!”
We were atbUR today for the Experiences 2022 session and my S has decided to commit there. Thanks to members of this group who share their words of wisdom with the newbies to help with the decision process. Grateful for all the tips that helps the forum
Any 2022 students from Massachusetts in this forum who are committing?
International applicant. Waitlisted on 19th of Feb. When will they start to pull off applicants from the waitlist?
@soledad my D is committing to UofR after getting her financial aid package. We are from Massachusetts just south of Worcester.
For us it will cost less out of pocket / loans than UMass would, but aside from that she likes the school way more than any of the UMass ones. Also she wanted some distance but not too far away. They have Amtrak or greyhound options for breaks that go from Rochester to Worcester for around $50 each way. We both got a similar vibe for the city to Worcester, its a decent size but not too big, has some shady parts and some nice parts. The bus system is great and gets you everywhere you need for free. We also found some nice unique places like a vegan restaurant she loves, as well as some chains like Moe’s and Dunkin if she is missing home
She is planning to study Biology with a pre-med track. They answered a lot of questions around that and with the flexible curriculum it seems feasible for her to do study abroad but would likely require a gap year because of the long process to apply to med schools. She was okay with that and would rather a gap year and get to do study abroad than fit everything in by junior year to go straight into med school.
@spookyloon88 I don’t know for sure but as accepted students have till May 1st to commit, I would guess they would not pull off the wait list till after that. When we visited last week they said they planned to enroll less students than last year so they accepted less students, depending on how many commit this might leave some room for those wait listed. Good luck!
@skateguy50 …thanks doe the background.
It is good to know Amtrack option .we live in Westford, so I can pick him up at worcester for 50 bucks .thanks for that.
My S also said the same thing about size and cluster why he is going to commit…he got the hoodie already… so kind of committed;)
My D got her hoodie as well, so pretty much committed but sending the actual money this week.
@spookyloon88 I was accepted today off the waitlist . So there is really no telling when you will get a response back from UR.
How did you go about appealing twice??
@SuperGymnast_04 - can you tell your second appeal was for financial aid (needbased) or merit scholarships?
@soledad2022 my dd will be committing this week. We live in northern CT, not far from MA.
@taverngirl - congratulations to you and your daughter!
@soledad2022 My only appeal was for additional need based. URochester denied this request. Then, they followed up with a larger merit scholarship.
Hi guys! Anyome knows when will they get done with pulling people off the waitlist?
I’m sure waitlist selection will go on between now and May as admitted students are still making choices on whether or not to commit. From then on I don’t know, could even go on for another month.
Is there anyone who was accepted from the waitlist that has already received word on financial aid?
On the topic of transportation home, there’s also mybushome.com. It’s a charter bus service that runs to selected schools and towns throughout the northeast (including UR) where trains may not be an option. It worked well for us before my son had a car on campus.
I am not associated in any way with the business, I just found it useful as a parent for those holiday trips home and thought I’d share.
just wondering if there is a group chat of any social media for admitted/committed students?
@rocu666 – My admitted son is in a group on facebook – I think if you search facebook for University of Rochester class of 2022 you can find it.
My son is committing to Rochester! Not looking forward to him being 5 hours away, but I knew in my heart all along that this is the best fit for him. Now I have to get him to join Facebook so that he can join the class of 22 group!
Keeping my fingers crossed for those who are on the waitlist. We were told by Case Western today that they aren’t accepting from the waitlist until after May 1. Such a frustrating practice!!!
