Applicants have no reason to care if UR (or any school) is need-aware or need-blind; it affects only the chance of admission, and then only sometimes (for internationals, often much more so).
@swagmaster2001 just the merit scholarship is not the full award, they usually send the merit awards first then a week later or 2 they would send you the grants from the school. so i would encourage you to wait a bit till the whole package is out, i know it is a bit weird, and confusing.
@Puzzeled101 So, pretty much everyone on campus I know have their 100% need met, including me. Regarding the loans, it depends from one person to another. International students don’t qualify for huge loans so usually we do get something arround 600 dollars in loans each semester, others can get 6,000 each semester, it depends on your whole need. I don’t know two people who have both identical aids, but I can gurantee you, they would meet your aid. and if it didn’t work out, (sometimes it does, even happened with me when i first got in) just email your financial aid counselor, and explain to her your situation and you might get an appeal!
@Meshmesha My daughter only received merit aid (Dean’s Scholarship) and a student loan. Unfortunately, her estimated family contribution is very high since she is still a dependent.
@swagmaster2001 did you get an email from financial aid, with login credentials to check all the financials? because i know this is the final step. they don’t send the whole package at once, they start by sending merit scholarship award and loans i guess, then a week or two later they send the financial aid grants as well, the grants could be up to 70k(I know alot of people who have that amount of grants) did you communicate with financial aid by any chance?
I am not saying that your daughter would get 70k in grants(she might, depends on your family status) , i just meant that there is no limit really to the grants given.
@Meshmesha I actually called the financial aid office yesterday. They said they will send an award letter in the next few weeks, but my daughter unexpectedly received an email with her award letter later in the day yesterday.
@Meshmesha Thank you for your comments.
is it the one that said she recieved the deans scholarship? if so, that is not the aid there will be yet another email that has the financial aid with it, containing more money, I know it is super confusing xD
@Meshmesha Our expected family contribution is over $64,600. That is why she didn’t receive any other aid other than the school loan.
My son only received $3500 in a grant - disappointing…
i ve been admitted on the 1 st of march (international) and I STILL haven’t recieved my need based fin aid…
@yoyo77777777 did you check your css profile/idoc to see if you have any documents missing?
My DS received admission on 3/1, but we have not gotten any notification for financial aid. The office has emailed me for additional documents, but its been more than a week.
Can anyone share thoughts on your 2023 experience visits to UofR? D has a visit scheduled on 4/19 and I’m curious to hear about your experiences. She’s never seen the campus.
@“SpecialK” They have a virtual tour on the Admissions website, and the every street on campus is visible on Google Street View. https://enrollment.rochester.edu/on-campus-visits/#virtual-campus-tour
@shuffle1 Thank you. She has done the virtual tour. I was more interested in impressions from those who may have visited campus for the first time during an accepted student visit.
@“SpecialK” i will be attending one on the 13. I will let you know about my experiences there.
I was recently admitted (2/8/2019) and have visited campus twice. I attended the admitted student’s day on 3/29. It was a great opportunity to explore campus and sit in on classes. The day is set up so that way you make of its what you want. I highly recommend the iZone social, the campus and library tour, and sitting in on classes. The campus is absolutely gorgeous (even more so in the fall as all the foliage is currently dead from winter). Rochester was already at the top of my list before I went, and attending the admitted student’s day definitely confirmed that it was still my number one. If you are able to, I would explore the city of Rochester as it was an extremely different setting than what I am used to. Overall, the admitted students day was great as like their curriculum, you choose what opportunities you would like to explore.
Thanks, @ejaneb! We’ll definitely check the campus tour and have her sit in on a class. She is in love with the idea of their open curriculum and that may push Rochester to the top of her list as long as she likes the campus/surrounding area.
