U of R vs RIT vs Northeastern

Maybe there’s a lot of advertising in Boston. I have seen zero advertising in NJ. The kid I do know personally at NEU is a National Merit Finalist who got full tuition and loves it there. He would not quality for any financial aid at an Ivy and many schools have eliminated merit aid. Basically NEU made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. To recommend that Rochester is a better school for schooling makes sense. But the stats? NEU has kids who graduate in 5 years so their stats will always be lower. I am having a hard time in my own head with NEU for my son because I lived very near Boston for 5 years and graduated in 1980. I recall the reputation. The thing that is changing my mind is that I personally know NYU and Sarah Lawrence college graduates who are working for free as interns just so they can get experience on their resumes.

My brother-in-law works for a company that does work for NASA. They have kids work for them on co-op and love that they get to know their work ethic, beyond their school smarts before they make them an offer.

benanny, you just made the case for NEU. I also have a hard time getting my head around NEU, but the best advertisement is happy students, and I know a bunch of very high end kids (Ivy material and just below) who all swear by NEU and describe themselves as very, very happy. Of course I haven’t heard of a kid being unhappy at UR either. Kids seem to genuinely love UR. Most kids, even if their college was their 2nd or 3rd choice, end up loving their schools and never turning back.

A big question is whether NEU truly is a model for the future or to what extent it is benefiting from the economic quagmire of the past past decade+, and stories like your NYU/Sarah Lawrence friends.
