U of SanDiego

well my parents are the kind that wants their kids to go to top tiers like Duke, ND, and stuff. My bro's applied to a bunch of them and I'm sure he'll make it to a few. I was wondering where University of San Diego would rank among colleges. Is it even close to being a top tier? Is it just decent? Is it hard to get into and stuff, because I really want to go there and I'm trying to find a way to persuade my parents to sending me there.

Since the elimination of the term “2nd tier,” all National U’s that are ranked within the top 130 are now called “Top Tier”. U San Diego is ranked around #102 (based on last year’s ranking, I don’t have this year’s ranking copy)

On your other post, you list your stats (I got 1720 on my first SAT try so I’d say 1800 to 2000 isn’t a reach at this point. My HS GPA is about 3.8 weighted. )

Your parents have to be reasonable considering your stats. While you are a fine student, it’s doubtful that you’d get accepted to - say - a top 20 school (even if you got your score up to a 2000).

So, it is very reasonable for you to be considering “mid-tier” schools (schools that aren’t Top 50, but are still in the top tier)

I forgot that you asked about difficulty of acceptance.

Here’s USD’s stats in regards to admission - It is selective in regards to admissions.

Freshman Academic Profile

Students in Top Tenth of HS Class: 39%
Students in Top Quarter of HS Class: 78%
Freshman Student from Public School High Schools: 53%

**Freshman Acceptance **
Total applicants: 10,584
Total applicants who are accepted: 3,479
Total of accepted students who enroll: 1,260

So, what is the breakdown of your SAT? You’d want your numbers to be around the middle or higher than the above numbers to be safe. :)

Also…be sure to also take the ACT… Some kids do a lot better on that. Schools will take whichever is the highest score. :)

thank so soooo much, again  i’m so glad to know that u of sd is at least a top tier… whew

my sat are 560 reading 600 math 560 writing, I’ll make sure to take the ACT also. I’ll probably take it twice before applying.

^^^

When you sign up for your tests, pay the extra money for the detailed score report (about $15 extra ). Then, a few weeks after scores are posted, you’ll get sent a copy of your test book AND an answer key which will indicate which questions you got wrong (with the correct answers provided).

You can use this information to see where you may need some improvement. :)

In the meantime, you need to come with a few more schools that fit your desire for warm/sunny weather. :)
