U of T--Victoria College? International Cost?

Hi! Hopefully people haven’t made similar posts on this forum, but I was a bit confused about U of T. I’m an international student from the U.S: no Canadian citizenship, never even been to Toronto. I recently got into Victoria College, and I applied for one of the Vic One streams, which seem super cool. I applied to Victoria after reading a bunch of forums online, but I still don’t have a great sense of it, which I hope to get through the tour (plan to visit in a couple weeks). What really appeals to me about U of T over McGill, though I’ve been accepted to both, was the smaller size of the colleges and that my sense was there was more emphasis on undergraduate studies in the humanities there (I plan to study Political Science). I was wondering if any current Victoria students or people who are familiar with the college could confirm or deny this / possibly offer a bit of insight into the culture there?

Also, I was a bit confused by the pricing on the website. For Arts and Sciences for international students, it appears to be $49,800 before extra costs are added in. Is this a correct figure and would they offer any significant scholarships to non-citizens? I know the Faculty of Arts is cheaper at McGill, is it a comparable situation at U of T? (I don’t mean to sound entitled or anything, I know my family hasn’t been paying Canadian taxes, but it is still a ton of money). We are planning to meet with a registrar when I visit, but I don’t want to sound like a complete idiot who can’t figure out the cost–though I’m sure I do right now asking about it on this forum. If anyone could help at all, that would be amazing!

Isn’t the tuition of $49,800 quoted in Canadian, as opposed to US, dollars ?

Haha, great point… thanks, feel a bit dumb now

No, not dumb, just less poor.

^^well please ignore that, but other question still stands

The $49800 will be just for tuition. There will also be college fees http://www.vic.utoronto.ca/students/Financial_Matters.htm and residence fees http://www.vic.utoronto.ca/Assets/VicCollege+Digital+Assets/Victoria+College/VicCollege+Digital+Assets/Dean/Residence+Fees+2017-2018.pdf?method=1 Add these up and multiply by 0.8 to get an approximate total cost in USD. Not included will be books and spending money and travel expenses.

Generally, any scholarship amounts would come with your acceptance letter.

Tuition for engineering is about $10K more than for Arts and Science.

Keep in mind that despite the college setup, there are 46,000 full time students on the St. George campus. UofT is every bit as research focused as McGill.

McGill tuition varies dramatically by faculty. UofT does not. All tuitions there are high for internationals.

hey I’m a current Vic student and Vic One Pearson alum! Vic is one of the smallest colleges so there’s definitely more of a community feel than other colleges and always a familiar face around. Even if you don’t end up doing the Vic One program, you have to take a seminar in your first year so you’ll get that small classroom, close contact with your prof feel (which I personally loved, especially considering you’ll have other classes with 1000+ students). Vic programs do tend to emphasize humanities, although you’ll find students and classes of all disciplines.
