U of T vs UIUC vs BU vs Northeastern

Hi! I have about a month and I just can’t choose which college I should go to. I want to major in Computer Science and some of the schools I am choosing from are:

U of Toronto: math & physical sciences
UIUC: Industrial Engineering
BU: CS and stats
Northeastern: Data Science

If I were to only look at costs, U of T would be a clear winner. Though I am currently studying in the U.S. for high school, I apply as an international student for schools in the U.S. but I do have a Canadian citizenship.

U of T, I heard, is easy to transfer into CS. I don’t know much about UIUC.

However, looking far ahead, I may want to transfer and get a degree from a U.S. college. If I do decide I want to transfer, would it be better to transfer from a U.S. college or does it not matter?

The two best choices, I think, are U of T and UIUC. But overall, which school would be the best?

Any advice will be helpful! Thanks!

I think it’s really hard to transfer into CS at UIUC

I got into UMass Amherst for informatics. Should I be considering Amherst too?

@longcoat . I had a similar dilemna. I want to major in computer science.

Accepted at U of T, math and Physics, Northeastern CS, UMass Amherst CS with a pretty good scholarship. ( I am US citizen having lived in France all my life)
I am also on the waitlist of Cornell, GeorgiaTech , UMich , NYU

I truly hesitated until the last minute between

  • Northeastern who have a really good CS program in the heart of Boston, good relationships between teachers and students - my brother is a junior there and loves it .
  • and U of T with its great reputation for top notch research but also poor GPAs & really hard work. In Canada, not in the US which was my intention for a long time…Not accepted in CS but in Math & physics so there is a risk that I don’t get accepted in CS…I also want to go to graduate school in the US so wasn’t sure if starting in Canada would be a good idea.

I finally decided for U of T after reading up on it a lot & talking to former students & looking into their research projects. I am now really happy with my decision. Toronto also seems like a pretty pleasant city.

What did you decide to do?
