U of Tulsa

My mother has been pushing for me to look at University of Tulsa. It's a private school but that's all i really know about it.

If anyone has any other info could you share it with me?

Thanks!

You probably should go look at it. The university itself is very impressive and was probably one of the best ones we toured in our extensive search. I remember the dorm rooms being very large and that the size of the student body seemed perfect. They do offer some scholarships, so don't let the tuition cost alone hold you back.

The theatre program seems good. The MT program is rather small in terms of numbers of students. This school could be considered a safety for MT, unless it has changed since we visited 2 years ago. The audition is for talent scholarships, not for admission into MT. The school is probably somewhat hard to get into academically, but you could check those statistics. I think most people in their theatre program also choose another area for a minor. I suppose this is also a possible school where one could double major. If I remember right, this is a BA rather than a BFA.

My son ended up choosing to apply to 2 other schools as safeties and did not apply to Tulsa. He just liked what he saw in terms of his specific area of interest at some other schools. Also, I think the audition based BFA programs are more intensive. It is always good to have a safety, though.

We've known students there who have been happy.

FWIW, my dauughter is a sophomore at TU and loves it. We are from Ky., a long way from Tulsa, and would never have considered TU except for a great scholarship deal. My daughter, loves the school, and is having a great academic experience. It has a real small school feel and we have found it to be a very friendly, welcoming environment, but also populated with a first class faculty and a very accomplished student body-definately worth a look.

If you are looking to stay in Oklahoma and you want MT, why not look at OCU, not very far away from TU and has a fabulous MT program, and a good scholarship program for academics and talent.

Definitely check out TU. I live blocks away. Though I would never consider it (because I NEED to get away from my crazy family). They have a really good theatre program. The only thing I have against it is that they SHUN you if you work with any local theatre companies, especially the one that I work with. Other than that, the campus and the poeple are really nice.
