your chances are low because of your rank and SAT

Can't really do anything about the rank...but the highest I see my SAT going is like 2200 at like the max max.

I wouldnt say his chances are low. Not to turn this into a racial thing, but since you are Hispanic, I'd classify Wharton as a Low Reach-Reach, which ranges typically from 25-35% maybe. You definitely have strong ECs and I'd say if you could tie that in with your essays and how you would like to connect that with your future, I think your chances increase greatly.

^_^

;-) thanks

Not that this matters, but I'm gonna learn French at the local community college. :-)

bump for the later crowd. I guess MIT business also, since they're 2nd best.

"I guess MIT business also, since they're 2nd best."

Yeah, that's always a good reason.

:) x 10 ^ 10

bump at school

I was in the top 5% of my class with a 2070 SAT, I took an undergrad class at Penn for credit last semester (surprisingly not that diffucult), and I got waitlisted. Everyone else I know got rejected, many of whom had credentials better than mine (I think taking the class at least helped me to get on the waitlist).

Penn is becoming a reach for anyone, unfortunately. I think your chances are increased because of being Hispanic and being from Texas. They love geographical diversity and look to have the entire country (and world for that matter) represented. It seemed as though half the students in the undergrad course I took were international.

Of course I'm from the greater Philadelphia area, so there are tons of people applying to Penn from around here. That certainly doesn't satisfy their geographical diversity, so they're even more selective with the people they accept from their own area. You have some natural advantages that people from my area didn't have, which might make it more of a reality for you than for me.

So good for Wharton?

hmmm your sat scores and gpa are no where near the average penn applicant, but you are hispanic. If you were asian or white, I would have to say it is a super reach, but for you just big reach.

Wharton seems like a real reach. I know that the scores are viable for UPenn itself, but not Wharton. My friend got into UPenn with a 2110 SAT1 and no EC's...but hey, hispanic power.

It will be a reach, but it is possible. Do your best on the essays, get some EXCELLENT recs, and try to raise the CR score if possible. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure I can get my CR 650+...I'm hoping at least, but I think it's realistic (summer to go over it).

Essays=awesome possums
Recs=divine

Bump...update

I think I did bad on my AP exams; I think I can get my SAT scores over 2150+.

My SAT IIs: 2200

I'd say you're a major reach for Wharton. SAT's are nothing special. Just average. Try to increase those math scores. They want that.

2200 is pretty high, I'd say....

I'm trying to get like near 800 for math SAT

and 800 for SATii mathiic

Look, Wharton is a reach. Penn rejects more than half of Valedictorians and perfect scorers; Wharton is likely even worse. To expect to hear anything different makes you either arrogant, ignorant, or both.

Penn accepts 7% of students in the 2nd decile. Penn accepts 18% of students with a 650-690 SAT Math. Penn accepts 10% of students with a 550-590 Verbal. The acceptance rates for Wharton are below the Penn average, so even those figures may be exaggerated. All of that information is available here: http://www.admissionsug.upenn.edu/applying/profile.php

You can give yourself a boost for Hispanic, and you can look at that information any way you wish. But no matter which way you look at it, Penn - and Wharton in particular - is a reach.

Come back when you have your 2150 SAT, but unfortunately Wharton will probably still be a reach. Apply, and if you really want to go there, apply early - that will help somewhat.
