Can anyone please provide a bit of information about this program? Im a rising sophmore looking into some good ecs, and i would like to know your opinions on the presitge of this program as well as selectivity. Btw, im looking at the summer program not the entire junior year one.

I was a House page (better than a Senate page, fo sho lollll...there's a "big" rivalry haha)...it's a great program. A friend of mine was a Senate page and loved it. I suppose it's prestigious, but don't do it if you don't love politics...keep in mind that it is a real job, and that you will have to work pretty much a minimum of 8 hours a day, and you'll get assigned to late duty and end up working something like 16-hour days occasionally (yeah this happened to me). It's AMAZING if you love politics/IR/government, probably not-so-fun if you don't. Check out www.congressionalpage.org for more info about the programs, I don't feel like elaborating here. Apply to both Senators and your Rep. if you want the best chances of getting in. (It is pretty selective).

Well, this is a month late, but I figured I'd try and help in case you come back and check. I was a Senate summer page in June.

But to be a Senate or House page, you must be in your junior year to page during the fall/spring 4 month sessions. If you want to page in the summer 1 month sessions, you can either be a rising junior or rising senior. And mocha is right about one thing (although not about the House being better than the Senate! =P)...it is a ton of work. One of my days there started at 8:30 AM and I was the late shift and didn't leave until 2:30 AM. And I wasn't even there for July's Iraq all-nighter.

Like I said, I was a Senate summer page in June, so I'd be glad to answer any questions you might have. Best experience of my life, hands down.

House and Senate pages are from all over the country! There's a dorm set up only two blocks from the Capitol complex where pages stay, so it's certainly not just a DC restriction.

And as for the sessions, there's four of them. There are two four month sessions that you also attend school during (Sept. to December and January to May) OR you can do a month long program in the summer in either June or July. I was in the summer program myself and LOVED it.

hey what are the dates by which you should write your dsitric representative if you want to apply for summer 2008? oh and what month/dates is the summer program for the house pages, that's what i'm doing

haha wow....this is my thread from last year,...time surely flies!! LOL Well just for the record, I DID apply for the page program AND i got IN! But...yes to answer your question, in my case, it would have hurt my GPA tremendously as a lot of the classes would not be matching up with my current schedule. So, as much as I wanted to go, I had to compromise especially because I would be loosing a lot of my key activities my ...international dance group, Editor in Chief of the school paper, and president of several clubs....i dont know if could do it.

Do i regret it? Kind of...yes. Im sure this would have been on an experience of its own, but I just didnt want to loose everything else that I had going for me, which were things I had worked my butt off for...does that make any sense?

I guess its really up to you...if you can make that compromise...definitely go!

I am interested in applying for page program over the summer. Can you giv eme soem tips on the application. Why do I want to be in the program- Besides the mushy talk what other reasons can I quote. Thanks

Did you get my earlier message. I am interested in Page program for the summer and applying for it. PLease let me know what should I include in my essay.

this program seems absolutely fascinating, but I'd like some people who went through the page program to answer - did you learn anything? Is it all hard work and running around, a simply "cool" experience, or did you come away with tons more information and experience than before? Are there any other type of government-high schooler jobs/internships like this available?
