U.S senate page?

I did not call my Senator’s office, although you could always do that. There was an application on my Senator’s website which I printed out. I’m also from mass. and will be a page this spring semester. I was appointed by Scott Brown, on his website it specifically said opportunity for “Mass. Student”, so he probably would not accept a someone from another state. But I think that it’s possible to apply to a Senator from a different state.

Just around the time this was posted, the leaders of the House of Representatives announced that the House Page program will be ending.

The Sentate program will continue.

Although I would do this for free, how much do the pages get paid after the taxes/residency fees are deducted?

^^^

Senate pages are paid at the annual rate of $20,491.

Senate pages are paid pursuant to P.L. 91-510, Section 491(e), 84 stat. 1198.

They pay $600 a month as a residence hall fee plus, of course, taxes and social security.

Hi I applied to be a summer senate page… still await response! Where the uniforms provided or did you have to buy it? And what about food? Was there a cafeteria or a commons of some sort?

Hi, I’m going to apply for the Spring Session 2013 for Harry Reid (D-NV). I have a 3.8 GPA, and I’m confident I’ll get great recommendations from my government teacher and my youth group leader. No essay is required, but I’m writing one anyway (anything to get ahead). What are my chances? I’m pretty good with writing and know a fair amount about politics. I’m just really nervous. I’m really counting on this.

Hi I’m also applying through Reid! What school do you go to? I’m eagerly awaiting their response-- I love politics so much!

I haven’t yet applied, and I won’t be 16 until after the Fall Session starts. I’m applying for the spring one and both summers if I can’t get in. I’m really nervous about my essay… Did you write one?

I applied back in August for the first summer session; I won’t hear back until some time in April. I really hope I get it! Politics and law are my passions. No, I didn’t write an essay. Sometimes admissions offices become irked when people send them unrequested documents. I’m just hoping that my GPA, extracurriculars, and letters from my teachers will do the talking for me.

Oh hey, that’s not far from here. And I don’t know, I just thought whatever helps. Good thing I can’t apply until next year. I don’t think I could beat you out for the spot. Do you mind posting your stats? I want to know what I could be up against.

I was seriously just thinking the same thing about you; I know it’s really competitive! I have a 3.81 GPA (but I’m in scholar’s/AP, which is the hardest you can take at my school). My extracurriculars are: Mock Trial (ranked 11th nationally), Yearbook (editor-in-chief), Speech and Debate/ Forensics, student government (I’m a link leader),NHS/ Academic Society, Science Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor society), Quill and Scroll (journalism honor society), Microbank (I’m a co-founder), National Forensics League, Women’s Bowling (MVP) and La Sociedad Honoria Hispanica. I think that’s it… I’m a busy person haha. I got letters from my ap world history/ constitutional government teacher and my scholar’s english 2 teacher. I did really well in both of their classes and they both seem to like me so I’m hoping they wrote some great letters. I really hope that’s enough to make me stick out. I am kind of jealous that I didn’t think to write an essay though!

what are your stats? Do you know anyone else applying?

…Crap. I’m done for. You are honestly amazing compared to me. I’m just a sophomore, but still. I’ve got around the same GPA as you (3.8U, 4.0W), but that’s it as far as comparison goes. It makes me really mad that we don’t have Forensics here, because I would join the crap out of it. I basically have nothing to show for myself. Environmental Awareness Club (probably board member next year), Varsity Quiz (most likely captain next year), Junior Classical League (most likely state representative next year), NHS (maybe officer next year?) I’m currently self-studying 2 AP courses (European History and Statistics), and I’m planning on at least a few more. I really want to get a forensics club started here. But besides that, I’ve got nothing. That’s why I’m relying heavily on this essay to get me through. But there’s 1 spot open per session in Nevada. I emailed Senators Reid and Heller about the Page Program, but as I expected, Heller couldn’t sponsor one. There might be one other person at my school applying, but I don’t know. Gah, I feel like crap after seeing how amazing your ECs are.

Is anyone applying from New Jersey?
And, Braydenslv, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! DON’T FEEL LIKE CRAP. :)

Haha, thanks, but it’s a good thing ybmtl4 and I aren’t competing against each other. I’d lose pitifully. Oh well, back to my essay.

Thanks, but your extracurriculars are better than most people I know! It is a good thing we aren’t competing against each other- I wish I thought to write an essay. Don’t fret. I know a girl who got in last summer with a 3.5 and only mock trial, theater, and forensics as her ECs.

^I thought you guys were both applying through Harry Reid?

Well hey, those ECs are more directed towards law/government. Varsity Quiz and Environmental Club don’t exactly show my aspirations for politics. That’s what I’m hoping to convey through my essay.

Geography23, we are, but she’s a year older than I am. I’m applying a year after she is. Good thing, too.

Oh. Okay. Good luck!

Thanks! I’m going to need it.
