U.T. scholarships

DS just got offered $4000 a year, renewable for 4years from the department of engineering. That's about 1/2 tuition for us instaters. It needs a whopping 3.5 GPA to renew each semester though, and that is mighty tough. ANyone else get scholarship offers? SAT 1490, SAT II chem 800 /math 2c 780

Wow, scholarship offers already? How did they notify you? Mail?

Wow! Congratulations!!! That's wonderful.

Wow thats crazy. I should have applied, know what could have put you over the top? Since I know plenty of people with similar scores, and a higher GPA that didn't get jack squat.

DS got a letter in the mail today. His gpa is pretty high - rank is 6/450+, he got 5 on Chem AP, 800 SAT chem. 780 math SAT II.. but little in the way of E.C.s I think I said that up top. He got this from the engineering department, and my guess is that they have more money than some departments for scholarships. I'm glad he got offered the scholarship, but I worry about him being able to maintain a 3.5 in the such a tough department.

Anxiousmom: Congrats to your son. Great school, great town, great department. I had hoped my son would apply there as they give in state tuition to out of state kids who are National Merit and have money in Engineering to give in addition and have a relatively low in-state tuition and room and board. Alas, he chose Berkeley, Michigan and Illinois as his out of state-state choices.

Are you going to change your nam to Notsoanxiousanymoremom?

I got one from the engineering department today!!! (I'm doing biomed)

$6,000 a year!

Since this is just from the engineering department, can we also get one from UT itself, or is this it?

awesome congrats, btw what's your stats miss zanna?

Not that great for an engineering student, I randomly applied to engineering. Although now I probably won't switch out to liberal arts because I'm tempted by the scholarship money.

SAT I: 1530 SATII: Math II 760/Biology E 730/Literature 720
Rank: 4/579 UW GPA: 4.0/4.0
Other stats: National Champion in a healthcare competition, Neurological Surgery Internship (in the Texas Medical Center), two more general medicine internships (also in the Texas Medical Center), solo "rock" band, lots of music awards, National Merit [Semi]Finalist (Our school hasn't notified us of finalist status yet)

lol those stats are really good :) congratz again ^^

haha thanks. You should have heard my mom though.
I had just come in after checking the mail, and I said, "The engineering department is giving me 6k per year."
And she says, "That's it?" :]

Then later she explained it was because some kid we knew last year got 8k and she thought I would get more than him.

So it's all gooood :]

I got one from engineering today also (doing biomedical). $4000 a year for 4 years. maybe my mom will get me a text messaging plan now...

Congrats aarosurf!

Now my parents will definitely make me to go to UT even though I don't want to...(UT is really cheap and we don't qualify for financial aid from other schools)

The schools I want to go to will be 200k total for 4 years and they don't offer merit aid
UT is about 80k total for four years and including National Merit, I already have 37k

I should be happy, but it's kinda depressing lol

Wow, I only got 2000 a year from college of engineering. Did any of you guys who got more have financial need, or was this all merit based?

hahah nooooo I don't qualify for financial aid at all, unfortunately =(
It was merit aid

Wow, guess it's cuz of my class rank then.

Yay! My son got an Engineering Scholarship today also -- $6,000/yr! This will make it an even more difficult decision when he hears from his RD schools that don't give out merit aid.

LOL ;) I should have after my DD was accepted to Rice w/ a nice scholarship and FA package 3 years ago - but I never could figure out how to do it. And then I started to get anxious about paying for two of them in college - and, voila, I'm back to being an anxiousmom again!
Congratulations on your scholarships, everyone! Now for the question... do all the engineering scholarships have such a high gpa needed to retain scholarship???? 3.5 gpa - ouch. Do lower scholarships have lower GPAs?

Has anyone been offered scholarships from any other departments (business?)

Does engineering give out unusually large amounts of merit aid compared to other UT schools, I was always under the impression it was almost impossible to get merit money at texas.

First, I want to say congrats to all the engineering guys here and their respective scholarships.

I didn't recieve my business scholarship until April.
