U Texas Dallas

As a junior in high school, I’m considering U Texas-Dallas for undergrad premed. I got an almost perfect PSAT score and will likely be a National merit finalist, which gives me all 4 years at UTD completely free.

However, I have heard that UTD is a commuter school, but due to the increase in on-campus housing in recent years, it is becoming better. Anyone who is a current student at UTD, is it still mostly a commuter school?

I know I won’t have much free time as a pre-med, but are there usually parties on Fridays or Saturdays on campus?

UTD is not your typical party school and definitely not on campus. There are house parties and greek parties but they are more contained than at most universities. As a premed student, you do not want to get a MIP so you need to find other ways to entertain yourself. Also, if you get caught on campus with a MIP, you lose your scholarship. My daughter is finishing her 4th year and has had fun through out her years but it was not thru large on campus parties with unlimited alcohol. She goes to lots of concerts, small house parties, attends cultural events downtown, travels and has explored Dallas and the surrounding area. She is always busy and has had a great 4 years. Her roommates are premed and have been accepted at all medical schools with scholarships. UTD gives you a great education but if you are looking for the typical party school, UTD is not it.

I would not say that it is not a commuter school anymore. Though there are still a decent number of commuters. The on campus housing is full and there are apartments within walking distance. So there is much more of an on campus vibe there than as recently as 5 years ago.

UTD is not a stereotypical booze and party school. But there are plenty of social activities including Greek life. It is fun for all the kids I know there.

If you are wanting good scholarships and a party environment - I suggest Texas Tech. It also has a medical school.

Also, University of Alabama has both.

UTD and Alabama should not be mentioned in the same sentence. Night and day.

Can you explain more about UTD and Alabama being night and day? Thank you.
