We just got notice an hour ago that the dates/times for selecting rooms have been set.
If you have paid your housing contract deposit, check your crimson email for more information.
If you haven’t paid yet…what are you waiting for?!
Also, once you’ve paid, go into roommate finder and set up a profile to help you find roommate(s).
For the size of UA, there aren’t that many kids on there w/ profiles yet!

We got our notification also. We are first! Yea! However, the notification included information on a women’s engineering dorm option. Does anyone know anything about this or have wisdom to share?

Yeah! D sent her housing app in October 9th, so she gets to go the first day and time too. She is hoping to get into a 4 person suite in Riverside West.

thanks for posting this!

I’m the 6th group…are Honors Dorms usually all filled up by then? Or is there still space available?

Our son was in the eighth group last year. He was able to get into his preferred dorm, Riverside East, and pull two roommates in with him. Good luck!

That’s good to hear! We were also a bit worried that our daughter is in the seventh group. Thanks for that info. :)

* However, the notification included information on a women’s engineering dorm option. *

I don’t think that’s in honors housing, unless there’s been a change. Does your D want honors housing?

Keep in mind that you have to start in honors, to choose honors later. If you don’t start in honors, then you can’t choose honors later.

I was assuming it was honors, because yes she wants honors. However, it’s in Lakeside East which are the suites, and she will be with other engineering girls. The whole “like minded thing”. What exactly given this would be the differences?

Anyone remember when the housing schedule for non-freshman comes out? Trying to remember if this is before or after the freshmen…

D will have the 3rd pick (last time on the first day). Anyone know if there was still space in Ridgecrest South (the honors tower) by that time last year? Ridgecrest West would be OK, too.

AL34, returning students will have room selection prior to freshman room selection. We do not have that schedule announced yet, but if your student has applied to recontract, he or she will receive an email about the status of the request and the schedule.

If you haven’t made the housing deposit by now, will it still be possible to get honors housing?

When do upperclassmen have to make their deposit so they can get a date to select a room? Hoping I didn’t miss that email. Son did select that he intends to return to campus, but want to make sure we didn’t miss the second step!

Montegut: The student needs to say that they are interested in housing for next year before Feb. 1. So you didn’t miss that deadline.

Housing will send out an email on or around Feb. 2 for those folks who can recontract for next year. So you haven’t missed anything.

Kayla,
It’s really hard to guess at this point how many of the students who have applied and paid deposits so far will want Honors housing, as opposed to other housing options.

We very rarely have opened in the fall with Honors students who requested Honors housing not finding an Honors space. That being said, it’s best to apply for housing and pay your deposit as soon as possible to receive a room selection time that will allow you as many options as possible.

Hope this helps!
Janine Gascoigne

Do upperclassmen have access to room selection before the freshman dates? Just wondering if there is anyone who can actually log in to see which dorms have the most availability - especially for 4 person suites.

Also, does anyone know why they are not doing room selection until April this year? It seems it has been in March in previous years.

I don’t know if upper classmen can see all the availability. Bama may have blocked out some suites for frosh and/or NMFs.

As for April selections dates…selecting in April probably makes more sense. By that time, kids know where they will be going to school. March selections times probably caused some problems with kids selecting and then opting to go elsewhere.
