UA Grad Programs Ranked Among Best/UA Law Rises to Top 25 in Nation!

Someone already posted a link to the new Law School rankings, but I think it bears repeating. UA has the highest ranked public law school in the SEC! And it is also now more highly ranked than Emory.

Notice also that UA’s MBA program has advanced in the rankings.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —*The University of Alabama School of Law is ranked 21st in the nation and the UA School of Library and Information Studies is ranked 18th, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2014 edition of its annual “Best Graduate Schools” publication.

UA’s Master of Business Administration program, in the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, comes in at 58th among all MBA programs.

“We are always pleased when our programs are recognized nationally. These graduate and professional programs offer an excellent education and a great value to our students,” said UA President Judy Bonner.

Thanks for this info. S may be interested in pursuing law degree, so this may influence his college decision. Does anyone know if a UA undergrad has any advantage when applying to UA Law? (I know some schools seem to go out of their way to not admit their own undergraduates.)

@ Dominar
I am not sure if a UA undergrad gives one an advantage into UA Law but it appears that it is not a disadvantage since they have a Honors “direct admit” into UA Law type program

DS is definitely considering UA Law!

According to another report (posted here, I think, a few months ago), UA Law ranks really high for (a) grads passing the bar and (b) grads getting jobs (as lawyers, not barristas! LOL).

UA Law actually teaches “how to do law,” not just all that theory cr*p. Law firms love this!!

WOW! UA Law beat out Notre Dame, Emory, UNC-Chapel Hill (snicker, snicker), Washington & Lee, William & Mary, U Wisconsin-Madison, and the list goes on and on!

It would be hard for us to beat that NC in-state tuition, though…unless DS establishes Alabama residency and gets Alabama in-state tuition (even better).

Lady Diane – don’t worry – I am sure it will all turn out okay even if finances force your son to go to UNC- Chapel Hill instead of Alabama for law school! (LOL – I’ve always wanted to write something like that – Roll Tide!)

Is the Honors “direct admit” really into the law school itself? I.e., you’re guaranteed a spot (presumably assuming GPA is above 3.0 or some other predetermined number)?

Honors Admissions Program

Select resident seniors in the Honors College at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa are eligible to apply to the School of Law through a pilot program that revised an historical UA Law-Honors Program. Requirements include being in good standing with the Honors College; a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.8; and a minimum ACT of 27 or SAT of 1220, which may substitute for the LSAT.*Although the LSAT is not required to apply to the UA Law-Honors Program, a score may be necessary for the applicant to apply to another law school as an incoming first year or to apply to transfer to another law school after the first year.

Eligible applicants for this Program should contact the Admissions Office at admissions@law.ua.edu or 205-348-5440. The streamlined application process for this Program normally provides admissions decisions within 24 hours of an application.
